Neat shots! That first one with the extra pods is pretty wide when you see it from that angle, like a trimaran.
How many Blackhawks did they bring, just these three? Or are there more?

those external fuel tanks on the Black Hawks are massive!! Im surprised they could not fly over the ditch by themselves!!

The Black Hawk crew look like they are from star war's or something!! Those masks are worn by many helicopter crews nowadays to protect them from ingesting all kinds of rubbish flung by the rotor wash and from other nasties flying around when they're hanging out of the chopper doors/windows. Plus it also protects the comms they use to talk to the rest of their crew from damage. The Aussie Blackhawk crews have found that there is one downside to wearing them - they tend to scare the hell out of little kids!

by the sounds of some of the other kiwi forums - some of the blackhawks were either sighted heading back to christchurch or at christchurch yeterday.

Two left for Christchurch yesterday and I went out to see the other two off this morning and they are heading to Christchurch via Mount Cook. Our weather has been lousy since Wednesday which is a shame for the crews trying to train.

saw 2 of them departing Tekapo at around 1pm with external tanks on heading towards Christchurch looked very impressive at 500ft or so
