Great discussions guys, it gives a great insight to the human aspect of the Air Force!
All this talk has got me starting the new 32nd Trumpeter Skyhawk. I am going to do a "KAHU" bird so may need some help on a few things.
I really cant wait for your book Don, its going to be a cracker. Keep us posted when it becomes available. Maybe we can have a bit of an informal Christchurch launch at Wigram over a few beers??
Cheers Anthony

Will do Anthony. I'm sure there will be a local book launch in Chch and Wigram is the logical place to have it. Will keep you informed.

Aft Hell Hole was also where the A/C Safety pins were stored. If you accessed it from the starboard side on shutdown the fuel dump vent dropped about a litre of warm fuel on you. No one ever told new people and we all got caught once.

What's the latest Don? It it tracking on time? My brother (ex-75 Sqd A4K Engines) has just gone under the knife and is in hospital a few days. If I know where to buy it this weekend, it would be a nice pick-me-up for his convalescence next week. What is the current status?

Last I heard was that it can't come out on ANZAC day.

oj, I think Don is up in Blenheim at the moment, but from what he has posted a few pages back in this thread, due to a combination of the Christchurch earthquakes and Chinese printers, the book won't be coming out now until May-Jun.
I hope your brother is feeling much better soon.

Ah yes Don, I also remember the plastic after nite shifts, also as a junior baggie was the one to fill it up too! A good portion of my time at 2 was spent with Hector T as my SGT, and he was a guy I had a lot of time for. Dropped into see him occasionally on trips to Wgtn, but havent seen him for some years now. Hell of a good guy.

Hell of a good guy. Hey Jonsey! Long time no see! I'm struggling to put a face to the name but I have a vague (drunken!) recollection of an Aircraft Mechanic who had a HQ ute (?) that spent a lot of time drinking with us CPLs (Speil, Tony Little, Me, Smithy) in the Bulls married patch! Second that about Hector. Top bloke. I used to regularly call in and see him at his old house in Sanson when I lived in Palmy. I bet he is still there flowing heads in his workshop for next to nothing! Did you catch up with what happened to the other Jonesy (Armourer SGT) from our days on 2 Sqn? He went to the RAAF in 2001 when we were all made redundant but hung himself a couple of years later. Very sad. Another top bloke. RIP

Hey Don, yep thats pretty much to description. As I joined up at a later age than most of the other baggies I did tend to have more in common with the CPLs. And yep, had a place in Devon Cres too!
I swapped the ute for Dave Alexander(14 sqn at the time?)'s Monaro. Not the cleverest move but we all make mistakes!
Wayyy too many years under the bridge, and I've lost contact with most I've worked with, as happens. The arrival of an A-4 at Classic Flyers in the near future may facilitate a local reunion.
Vaguely remember the other Jonesy. tragic stuff. Well done with the book. A fitting tribute.

Yes Dave,
Warwick "Flea" Jones. 75 Sqdn 1967 to I suppose 1974 or so. Long time Secretary of the RAeS in Hamilton.
He got out of Waikato Hosp Sunday, and said today "the clips are out" and sounded in good spirits. Better not make him laugh in case it hurts!

Mr Tui and PCP were the 2 bad Black-hander SGT dudes beside me & WAH! for the Tweets and Deadly Des & a progression of sidekick Armourer Sgt's - Dave Barrett, & China Bradley & ... (??) and Coops as Cpl S&S. It was a damn good crew. And I'm mixing my pre-Kahu & post Kahu faces I know but with Jim Jennings as the boss it was a pretty good place to work. Hector had a wicked sense of humour - mostly dead serious - work first professional and then out of nowhere he'd slay you with something from left-field!

Had to go into work due to a machine breaking a drill and since I was close to Don txted him to see if he was home and he was so dropped by on the way home. So have had a look at the book Don has sweated over all these years and it is impressive. FULL of photos and although I skimmed the text I think this is a book you must have on your shelves people! Thanks for the preview Don (and the beer!) I will certainly be ordering a copy!
