May as well ask ... regarding the book cover photo, is the a/c carrying sidewinders on the outer plyons (or something else)? If so, what's all the "extra" white area behind the missile tip (as the photo can't expand, it sort of looks like a rather "chunky" sidewinder or "chunky" hard point)?
Or are they smoke trails as the sidewinders are being "fired" over Mt Ngauruhoe? :-)

They are pods of CRV-7 rockets being fired over White Island ("towards" the Volkner Rock bombing range) in 1988.

Congratulations Don, and to Nick, it has been a long journey but I am sure it will be very much worth it.
That photo is a classic, I have a poster of it somewhere. i always wondered what the camera ship was, Hercules? It must have been an exciting photo shoot (literally on the 'shoot'). Have you any idea who the photog was?

RRP is $75 but if your pre-order direct from the publisher I believe it will be a bit cheaper (but I'll need to check with them on that).

That photo is a classic, I have a poster of it somewhere. i always wondered what the camera ship was, Hercules? It must have been an exciting photo shoot (literally on the 'shoot'). Have you any idea who the photog was? It was actually taken by another Skyhawk using a rear facing camera pod! I believe the "photographer" was Frank Sharp but I haven't been able to confirm that. Apparently there was some explaining to do once people in high places saw the photo... But it is a classic and for me there was no other choice for a cover shot. Edit: I just had an email from Frank Sharp confirming he took the photo. This is what he had to say about that sortie: "It was taken from Skyhawk 6256 (Wg Cdr Frank Sharp with Flt Lt 'Patch' Nelson in the rear seat) and shows Skyhawk 6203 (flown by Fg Off Chris Hutchison) over White Island on August 5, 1988. The CRV-7 rockets were 'en-route' to the Vaulkner Rocks live firing area. Patch will tell you that when the aircraft flying close line-astern fires these rockets the camera aircraft in front certainly hears them and the shock waves as the rockets accelerate to mach 2+ certainly let you know that they have passed close by!! Chris actually ripple-fired 12 rockets - but from the photo we managed to capture the first two 'on the way out of the tubes'. (I think CPE must have a number of other shots from the same filming as I used the rocket firing trigger to activate the rearward looking camera mounted in a hollowed out rocket pod). This camera mounting and wiring was an unofficial mod, but Sqn Ldr Andy Anderson, CO CPE, was also the RNZAF Staff Officer photographic so I think he gave himself permission for the "trial" fitting."

Yes it will be available through all the major book shops in NZ I'm told, but not until after the ANZAC Day launch. The publisher is also trying to sell it through the major book shop chains in Australia, but that isn't confirmed yet.

That shot I had as a poster on my wall as a kid- it is awesome, along with the Tornado (and MiG 25) from Warplane magazine... flying 1 out of 3 ain't bad!

It now doesn't look like the books are going to be here in time for an ANZAC Day launch (they are getting printed in China). Now looking like mid May...

If you look closely you can see it's shadow across the top of the fuselage, port intake and wing.

Totally unacceptable, as my boss at Noel Leeming says "over-promise and under-deliver"! Looking forward to reading it, I will need to save some pennies though.
