Kia Ora
My father n law was a ground crew membe on the Coronation tour of Equatorial Africa. They were based in Cyprus I believe. My wife and I saw a photo of him with 2 mates standing beside an aircraft in Uganda named mooloo. We were wondering where we could get some info on this and if anyone has photos of that trip. Please email me or reply post. His name was John Brown, he passed away in 1982 and it would be fantastic to hear about their exploits.
Thanks very much

If I'd ever came across mention of this operation, I'd forgotten about it. Very interesting!

Tau, I put you crook on the book title sorry, there are actually two books.
The first is Cyprus Safari - edited by the late Pete Ingram. The second is Safari Postscript - also edited by Pete Ingram.
They are a compilation of stories of the squadron';s time in the Middle East 1952-1955, collected from lots of the squadron member, air and groundcrew. Pete Ingram was a member of the groundcrew.
If you cannot find them (National Library may have them) let me know, I have copies and can look out any info in them on Long Trek 2 and see if there's anything in there on your father.

There is a brief write up about 14 Squadron's operations in Cyprus (etc) in the June 1983 issue of New Zealand Wings "The Fighting Fourteenth's Forty Years; Part 3:1951 - 1958....of Vampires and Venoms".
I have a spare copy of that issue if you would like me to send it to you?
The article makes reference to an article in the November 1972 issue by Group Captain Michael Palmer with more info about Cyprus and East Africa but I don't have a copy of that issue at all.

Just having a flick through a few more issues - there is also an article "Cyprus Safari" by Bill Rodger which has a few photos - none with your father in law in them unless you can recognise him as one of the unnamed groundcrew in some of the photos.
There is a photo of Mooloo with most of the pilots on the squadron at the time.
I also have a duplicate of this issue if you would like a copy
