you could buy out NZ Rail If I had a ticket and won that sort of money, I'd make Kermit Weeks an offer he couldn't refuse for an ex-RNZAF Sunderland that is in his possession, then I'd pay for some work to be done on it and have it flown back to ENZED.

Getting together a suitably qualified crew would probably be the biggest problem.
The world isn't exactly awash with S.25 type-rated pilots these days.

Can kiwis buy tickets in this lottery? Or is it for US Citizens alone?

I've got a VHS videotape (I must get around to copying it to DVD) that has about an hour of footage of Kermit Weeks learning to fly his Sunderland and getting type-rated on it prior to flying it home to Florida. It was all done from Southampton waters.

Yes but with that sort of money you could afford to take the time to get certain people suitably qualified. What would you want to buy Kiwi rail for. You could buy Air NZ.

Can kiwis buy tickets in this lottery? Or is it for US Citizens alone? I'm sure you could probably find an online lottery ticket seller somewhere in the USA who could flog you off a ticket or ten.

Yeah, but I think its the same guy that still owes me millions from Nigeria. My patience is starting to run out....

No, because it hasn't flown for many years so nobody is current on Sunderlands any more. However, I understand they still start the engines up on it regularly.

No, because it hasn't flown for many years so nobody is current on Sunderlands any more. However, I understand they still start the engines up on it regularly. Sadly you understand wrong. It'll not fly again without a major restoration, IMHO. It's mostly kept inside these days, but there are visible corrosion issues when I saw it a few years ago - visible corrosion in a flying boat is not a good thing, because it means there's more, worse. I'm not aware of it doing anything except be towed around at Fantasy of Flight for many years now. I'm pleased to have seen it on the water at Rochester in Ryanair colours and fly at Great Warbirds airshow, backintheday... Regards,

Oh, PS, Kermit does seem to fly his Grumman Duck of the water pretty regularly.

At the risk of being boringly sensible about this, I've met a lot of warbird owners, and I can't think of one who'd regard a lotto ticket as a good investment - ever.
