An article in The New Zealand Herald today about Sir Peter Jackson finally brings up the ossue of The Dambusters film, which has been deathly silent and forgotten by the media in all the Hobbit euphoria of late. The article is here www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10853548and this passage is from it: "In 2008, it was announced that Jackson would produce a remake of 1955 World War II classic The Dam Busters, which was to be directed by Weta staple Christian Rivers (who won a special effects Oscar for his work on King Kong). The project seemed a natural fit for a war plane-obsessed 'wingnut' like Peter Jackson, but nothing has come to pass as yet, despite a bunch of replica planes having apparently already been built for the project. I spoke to Rivers briefly on the red carpet at the Wellington premiere of The Hobbit, and he told me they are still planning to make the film but that it's on hold at the moment due to script issues. I hope it happens eventually - there's such a wealth of creativity at Weta, it seems crazy that we haven't seen a film come out of that talent pool yet." So it is good to hear that Rivers is still involved as he hasn't been mentioned for yonks, and good to hear that - despite what many people have said - it has not been canned. They have been citing script problems for a couple of years now bit have never specified what exactly those problems are.

Just call the dog "Kiwi" and get on with it.

The dog is irrellevant. It's name doesn't have to even be said. And the codeword would only need to be dits and dahs.

I mean they're not that small did he drop them down a hole or something?? ;D

Hope they sort it out. That will be an awesome movie. I made the propellors for the Lancasters a few yrs ago. They are made of glass filled rigid PU, had to withstand 2000 rpm. Good run up

Afterwards, swap one with MOTAT's then add that one to AHC at Omaka - airworthy. I've donated already - went to see Hobbit movie and got charged exorbitant ticket price

That's what I've been saying ever since the movie was made public. An airworthy Lanc in NZ hmmmmm. What an airshow that would be and who knows there might even be a Mossie or two too boot by then.........( Dreams are free, but this is not impossible )

Omaka? The strip would be too short, surely?
Whenuapai perhaps?

I'd suggest Ohakea - built for Wellingtons, maybe suited to "empty" Lancasters? And already becoming quite the home for warbirds with the Biggin Hill Deere collection and the Venom. I've donated already - went to see Hobbit movie and got charged exorbitant ticket price As did Miss Sam for the pair of us. Loved it, but not a fan of HFR...that's another story though.

Whenuapai was also built for Wellingtons, but both airfields have had major upgrades about three times since then!
What is HFR??

High frame rate I think. The Hobbit was filmed at 48 frames per second, faster than normal movies. I have yet to see it in that framerate because the cinema we were meant to see it in Nelson had a broken projector and we were diverted to a theatre without that capability.
