Yeah, I was pretty thrilled to see this, now I can stop pretending that one day I will build my Merlin Vampire T.11, now I know theres no way in hell. Maybe I can use the decals on something else. ;D Just had a thought, I wonder how many Vampire/Mosquito pairs we'll see modelled over the next few years? Steve.

I already have an old Airfix Mosquito build of mine "restored" as KA114 - just needs decals - so keep an eye out!

you mean something like this pair ? (Mind you...one is Tamiya and the other is CMK) or maybe... that's the Airfix Spitfire IX

Yes Harry, exactly like that. Those are neat though I confess to not having thought of AL like that. Bit slow on it I guess. Steve.

Nice to see that the RNZAF is still represented in Airfix.

Watch this space, I'm starting one this weekend, to be done by the end of the month for my club BSK. I couldn't find the starter set on sale here, so got the standard one, then asked Hornby very nicely for a set of the RNZAF kit decalsn

I have the starter kit, I had to order off ebay. It looks very nice, more accurate in shape than the CMR resin kit (which is otherwise nice detail...see above). It should be a good build

I want to see a model made of this Vampire T.11 - NZ5711 - from Graeme Cossgrove's collection

That'd make a nice subject Dave. As an aside, is it me or does that starboard underwing tank look like PRU blue & the other baremetal/HS Silver? Steve.

I think it is the grey-green camouflage that some of the Vampires wore then.

I think the sunlight on the port tank makes it look a very light colour. It looks blue (ish) on my PC. I think Dave is right its the old camo colour.

Afaik, some (a few?) of the FB.5s were finished in the then standard RAF finish of Dark Green/Ocean Grey over PRU Blue (as the Ashburton Aviation Museum example is finished) when they arrived. They were soon refinished in the standard High Speed Silver finish that they served in, in the RNZAF, but I wondered if that darker colour drop tank was a refugee from that time. Steve.

Exactly my thoughts, and concurred by Barf at the Air Force Museum too. These photos were taken in 1959, given that the aircraft has white ferns on the roundels. So a few years after the camouflaged FB.5's arrived from the RAF, but it may have been out of stores recently and not yet repainted.

You do know though Dave if you finished one like that you'd have every man & his dog telling you you had the wrong colour on the drop tank. Steve

As we have the photographic evidence they can take their dog for a long walk, off a short pier.
