Probably AKL/PER for shakedown flights as can't imagine ANZ would want to use a supper efficient extra long haul aircraft like the 789 on such a short route? We use ours on routes like LGW/HKT and we only have the 788 version.

Tfly, Air NZ will be using their 787-9's to replace 777-200ERs on the AKL-PER route, it is a very different mission compared to Thomsonfly flying charter pax between Gatport and Phuket. Bear in mind that AKL-PER is a 7 1/2 hr sector and caters for an increasing amount of FIFO workers based in NZ who are comparatively speaking high yielding pax on that route, hence the justification of up gauging recently on this route from a 767 to a 777. Air NZ are also going to be facing increased competition from the likes of EK/QF, and may have to face up to the possibility of daily frequencies from competing A330's or 777's. The 787-9 is therefore a logical choice.

How come it`s 7 1/2hrs now and 20years ago it was only 6 hours. Are these new flash aircraft slow.

Depends which way you're going. AKL>PER is around 7.5hrs, PER>AKL is around 6.5 due to prevailing winds.

Yes was a pity the weather didn't hold out, the cloud cover darkened things up a lot. Here's a few of my shots. Sorry for the quality.

Great to see some pics gebbw, would have been pushing the camera limits by that time. Does anybody know where this a/c is parked up and when it's heading out?. Thinking of heading out for a drive.....
