Hey great meeting up with you to Sam and your Dad. Sorry it took me a while to place your Dad? It gets quite hard when people come up to me and say you must be Colin Hunter and then I try to figure out which web site they may have seen my name on. Not to worry I hope he had a good day as he looked like he was enjoying himself.
Nothing wrong with your pics Sam they look great and at last we caught the Hercules with "Fireworks!"
Cheers,
Colin

Mumbles, Great 'action' photos - thanks for them. Not being familiar with the warbirds in NZed may I ask is that Corsair the real deal? AND did the F-111 do a loop? Sounds like it was a great day all round.

Nice to meet you in person Colin; as it wasn't Xmas Day and you had a large camera, I guessed immediately it had to be you!
Another triumph for the air force I thought. I think it's great to feel the vibes of confidence from everyone you meet in uniform, whether they were RNZAF or RAAF. It's a pleasure to talk to them and hear how thye're looking after my air force since I left! I think it's in very good hands. A very young RAAF P/o [he looked about 16!] left in charge of the static F111, told me he was 'blown away' by his first flights around the South Island. It was actually the static aircraft which did the display, the other parked at the far end of the airfield had apparently been sent out there to do engine runs without causing the base to collapse.

FN, no it didn't do a loop, but the first fast run down the runway was almost silent until the noise caught up with it! It's a great party act ,the F111, and the Aus taxpayer didn't pay for the fuel burn either,: we did! Talking to some of the Aussie lineys it was very clear they were having a good time, although it's strange to hear one say it was his first time "overseas". I don't consider Australia as "overseas" really. It's simply the "West Island" to us!
The Corsair is indeed 'the real thing" and a genuine RNZAF one at that! It's one classic the Aussies haven't managed to buy yet!

Both aircraft sound like they were great at the airshow for sure. I have never seen the F-111 flying at any time - nor the Corsair. Tasmanians refer to Australia as the 'mainland' so I like to think that is where I live also. The MAIN LAND sounds good to me. :-) Don't be surprised if that one day Oz & NZed are one republic/confederation (all by mutual agreement / vote). This may occur due to an 'unforseen' military or economic or global situation. Don't laugh ;D you heard it here first. ;D

On the way to the Open Day and trying out my new Sigma 10-20 mm super wide angle lens for DSLR's. More to come later of the show itself. Colin

an ex- Pig pilot on another Board back in 02 was going off about those Foreigners that were flying the pig after the ACF Disbanded and that they shouldn't be etc, although by the post he sounded bitter as if he he had been told desk job or p :oss off type thing so was pointing his bitterness toward towards you guest it.

FN the two countries are very, very close now, in ways both legal and financial that most people never think of. When the time comes for that merger we'll be gentle with you!

Superb photos!! Well done Sam and Colin. Wow, I wish I'd gone down now. Oh well.
It's great to see the Sioux's displaying, a real rarity these days. In fact even in my day it was rare to see two in the air at once.
Also neat to see the nine-ship CT/4E formation. Did they do what Warbirds does and break off the five-ship team from the massed formation for the Red Checkers display?
The Smoke Angel from the Hercules is great, eh. It really impressed me seeing that last year.

Great pics all! Excellent work, and thanks for sharing.
A Kiwi friend long resident in these parts always refers to Oz as "West Island."

There was a plane that changed colour as it moved past me? That chameleon plane (a czech made Sportcruiser) lives at Te Kowhai, just across from our Yak hangar. The pilot (Andy) is part of a fleet of lighties slowly making their way down to Wanaka. The fleet inlcudes a couple of Bantams so it will be a real endurance mission...
