Looks like they are. Shame NZ has lost such a great collection of aeroplanes. Mind you....we must have the largest collection of World War 1 aeroplanes anywhere in the world with more to come!

Perhaps they are for sale as surplus to the aim of the "Alpine Fighter Collection"; at the risk of stating the obvious.....

I didn't think the AFC existed anymore - only the NZ Fighter Pilot's Museum?

It says the Tiger moth has not flowen for 11 years and the Chipmunk is 10 years. No wonder they want to get rid of them.

I would think that the aircraft have been maintained and stored well. Its a good climate there in Wanaka. Depends what they want for them ,whether they will sell in todays economic market.

I am sure they are in amazing condition. Huge money to have invested that is not being used. Both look like they would be great buys. Fingers crossed they stay in nz.

What about the Hurricane?
Does anyone know if there are plans to sell that?
I'd be disappointed to see that aeroplane disappear overseas.

I think the Hurricane is the last jewel in the crown, still worth visiting just for that sight I think, but waiting for the 'For Sale' to be hung off her as well one day.
I'm surprised the Chipmunk has not flown in a decade? What other Chipmunks are there left in New Zealand, anyone know? As true De Havilland classics I think NZ has quietly lost too many Chipmunks and Beavers from the skies.
Guess this is the downside of 'private' museums, can be here today and gone tomorrow. Lots of pleasure while times are good, but sad to see everything evaporate when times are bad. Having written that there is not much difference with 'volunteer' museums either I guess.
As VS says, they will be somebody else's toys soon, hope they share.

Plenty of Chipmunks left. I think there are at least 2 at Ardmore. Plenty more around the traps

There was a formation of 8 Chipmunks at Omaka in 2007 and seven from memory there in 2009, so they're not rare in NZ skies. The Hurricane was put up for sale in 2006. Rumour has it that it was bought (or part-bought) by Paul Holmes. Either way, I don't think that it's allowed to leave New Zealand, based on many different things people have told me, something to do with Air New Zealand's investment into it I'm told.

I was looking on trade-a-plane and found this item of interest. www.trade-a-plane.com/clsfdspecs/830279I guess thats the end of an era in Wanaka. Does anyone know if that will be the end of WOW airshow? Might be time to buy a lotto ticket and try to keep the hurricane here in NZ.

Does anyone know if that will be the end of WOW airshow? Might be time to buy a lotto ticket and try to keep the hurricane here in NZ. That's terrible news! Given its history I would have thought that Hurricane was here for ever, instead it has been, or is about to be, sold overseas, and very quietly done! Come to think of it, when was the last time it appeared at an air show in NZ? The Wanaka 2010 Air Show Programme on-line has the Hurricane featured!
