You need tracer to see where your shooting and to adjust your aim.It was only one shell in 5 or so was tracer and the other guy would be blazing back with tracer to.

You would guess they rebuilt BXY's fuselage, then when BPU came in for its overhaul they whipped the wings off it and put them on the rebuilt fuselage, then rolled it out as BPU,as they never seemed to use written off a/c rego's again back then, even if they were rebuildable. Just like they used to mix'n'match the Fletcher rebuilds.

Coming from Hamilton go through Tauriko and down the hill to the big roundabout by the Lakes shopping centre and turn right.Go straight ahead on that road (to Rotorua) about 3km until you get to the roundabout at Pyes Pa Road. The big funeral home is to the left of the roundabout,or the cemetary funeral chapel is to the right of the roundabout. It will be either of those. Can't miss them.

I think thats long gone,an operator told me recently with an AOG he was quoted at least 6 weeks delivery for a common part.
Theres a whole pile of second hand CT 4's kicking round cant be much demand for them.
Sky diving outfits going belly up all over the place since covid, outlook for XL looks bleak.

Taken 6 years but I was finally able to verify the pilot on the right talking to Frank Jarvis is Bruce Oliver, former RAF Spitfire pilot in Europe & Malta, and postwar Catalinas & DC-3's with the RNZAF.Joined James Aviation in 1955 and later flew with Adastra and sadly died in an accident 1959.

Sadly the poor old Piper Cub had practically no pilot safety,in the event of a head on crash with a load in the hopper it crushed the pilot between the hopper and the engine. With a load in the hopper it would also spin very well.If you read all the accident reports it was involved in a lot of the pilots had extremely little ag flying experience,Also several pilots came unstuck beating up the airstrip.

Heres the strip in 1966 when it was active. But judging by the trees on the threshold and the power wires running across the other end I would guess that strip hasn't been used for over 20 years.Theres thousands of unused topdressing strips all over NZ,Its fun spotting them when driving along through the country side.

The original Flea the whole wing pivoted like an elevator. The force of the wing moving could overcome the controls. It was a flying death trap.If you read AE Cloustons book it happened to him,the Flea flicked inverted and the controls went useless,he grabbed the trailing edge of the wing and lifted it up to regain control.A lot of pilots were killed in them.
