On my last visit to Omaka there was a BE2 under restoration on display with what looked to me like a newly built engine . The Pither aircraft also had what appear to be a newly built engine .Is there an outfit here in New Zealand making reproduction engines?

All credit is due to the people who make Ferrymead happen , they have found a way to encourage the public in . The crowd that run the Tauranga outfits approach is more business based , they have a cafe/ bar/restaurant and conference facility in the same building as the museum , and they promote joy rides in several aircraft types as well as helicopters . The two people who are the kingpins are both aviation enthusiast and they have gathered a fair sized group of enthusiasts who volunteer to assist in the various ways needed . From what I have seen it is a well run organisation which works and provides a great deal of fun for those involved . As to preserving airliners , sure they tend to live outside during their working life , but if they are to last as museum exhibits a coat of paint and a clean is far short of what is needed . All openings need to be sealed , after all corrosion has been found and been treated . Engines need to inhibited etc .

As well as the Shuttleworth aircraft there was another stored for many years in Ireland , I think it has since been restored to airworthiness , however this is more probably a Tutor .

This aircraft is currently flying in the UK and should soon be shipped here . Also to go to Omaka apparently is an airworthy Etrich Taube .

While on Whitney Straights , what became of the one that sat up on the roof of that shed south of Auckland years ago ?

Thanks for that it was all very interesting , a ground crew told me that if an aircraft had a stabaug failure some pilots would not fly it as they knw it would make them sick .

Was passing Ohakea a fortnight ago and one did a touch and go and then left the circuit , picked up speed and disappeared climbing into cloud to the south west .

This is just something that came to me from nowhere but where might you conceal ten aircraft with a 100ft wingspan .

I have seen two different photos of the Kiwi on the roundel Vulcan . One is taken of the starboard side , from somewhere close to the main undercarriage I would guess . It shows the forward fuselage and the zapped roundel . The other photo I believe was taken by an Australian couple who were on their honeymoon on a yatch in Milford Sound and the Vulcan is shown at low level , flying through the Sound . This photo definitely appeared in Aeroplane Monthly probably in the mid 1970's , I have the issue somewhere .
