I'm currently on night shift out in the middle of the Pilbara in W.A. The night sky is just spectacular (hardly any light pollution) from here, I've got Google Sky map on my phone and pop outside every couple of hours to look upward with it. Not sure when its at it's peak tonight or tomorrow but will be having a look anyway..

Sadly, religious debate will probably be banned like political debate here....but that cartoon does say it all, and not just describing one faith either. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster seems to be the one true faith left on Earth that has something constructive to offer!

Siren

Some towns are going away from sirens as they have outlived their usefulness. When I was a vollie in Tauranga we relied on pagers, as most guys lived out of earshot of the siren. Theres also some backlash from people who dont understand the need for them, and find them a bit of a pain when going off in the middle of the night! A mate of mine was a vollie in a small town and lived beneath the siren, he reckoned he would be out of bed and halfway out the door as the siren would start winding up!

Incredibly sad news. Innocent people with a right to travel brutally murdered. Those poor folks. Just sickening news really, and compounded by political bickering as to who's at fault.

www.nzherald.co.nz/aviation/news/article.cfm?c_id=556&objectid=11288373With extra hype thanks to NZ Herald's quality reporting system? Possibly all over being a few minutes late due to a random drug & alcohol test if the article is to be believed. Obviously theres more to the story than whats reported, but sure sounds like behaviour my kids would indulge in when they dont get their way PS I carry out random D&A sampling every day at my job on the mine site. Heres the catch: if ya cant go...ya cant go. Not many guys can pee on demand shortly after theyve already gone, and sometimes ya just gotta wait. Longest I've had to wait for a guy to squeeze one out was 4 hours. Also had a guy partly crap himself trying too hard to pee...ahh the perks of the job!

Wellllll...technically didnt need SAR, just some mug with a helo to drop out some supplies. And after I'd read about his technical difficulties I can sympathize with him. Still, good luck to him-its all for a good cause, even if some guys end up paying a little more than they'd intended! PS apparently theres a few dozen yummy dolphins frolicking around the area that he could munch on...

Prioritizing and effective time management wins every time. So does procrastination...at some stage. Eventually. When I get round to it.

I fly Cobham to work every week but they also get me back home every week too, so thats a bonus. Those old 146's are pretty much like buses really, no creature comforts and the staff seem to do the best with what theyve been given. From what I've heard the flight crew are very experienced on type. I'm off to work tomorrow morning, pretty confidant it wont be on that particular plane!

The "T" is TIME: Its a time critical event, but as you have shown already, theres very little that family or bystanders can do except call for help ASAP and keep the patient safe. Recognising the first 3 signs is so critical, and getting the ambos to transport to hospital quick smart is great.
Another factor is that a stroke can affect anyone, anywhere, and anytime. By the way, how old are you Paddy?
PS good luck with continuing the recovery phase, its a long haul indeed...

Yeah, I had a crack at 600 and results were average. Might have a crack at 1200dpi tomorrow. I'd love to get a good result to possibly identify the guys that were on the exercise.

Try scanning at 600dpi then opening in Windows paint and cutting them out with the crop tool to paste in another paint window. Thanks for that, Luther. I was doing OK up till the word "scanning" then my eyes glazed over with the techno talk . I'll get one of the kids to have a crack at it!
