Hi all
I am new to the list but am enjoying reading up on past postings! I got an EOS 400 for Xmas. First digital SLR that I have bought. Still learning the in’s and out’s of the camera. Have read and re-read the manual and still don’t know all there is to know but I am more then happy with the quality of the photos I have taken thus far. I find that the zoom ring on the 75 – 300 lens has a tendency to “stick” somewhat, but I guess that it will smooth out as I use it more.
I am a happy snapper (not pro's like some of you guys here) but will shortly have the opportunity to take air to air photos of a friend’s homebuilt/kitplane he is building. Will do this with the Canon and its 75 – 300 lens. I have never taken air to air photographs. I will be taking photographs from both the inside of his kitplane, mostly video and then photos from a “chase” plane. As a newbie to this form of photography I would appreciate any help or suggestions that can be of assistance to me! I might mention that I am not doing this for any financial gain whatdoever… but purely for a friend and most importantly the excitement and adventure of it…
Thanx in advance…

Hi all I have finally finished my Skyraider. Started about seven years ago then packed away and now finally finished. But now after looking at the pics I might not be so sure This was an old Airfix kit but sold under the Heller brand. I built her straight from the box decals and all which are very good I must say. I used her as a “testing” model for my new compressor and cheap TradeMe airbrush. At the end of the day I only used my old trusty Badger singel action airbrush. Must say I am very happy with the outcome of my spraying endeavors. Good references in the form of period photos are hard to come by. Most photos are b/w which is no help considering that the aircraft was painted dark sea blue while in service. I contemplated giving her a matt finish but most of the modern sea blue “warbird” Skyraiders are glossy is appearance. In hindsight I might have used a satin cote instead of a pure glossy finish as I think she is too glossy… but so we learn! I added very little weathering, mainly to the bombs, rockets and a nip here and there on the prop and leading edges. I painted in the traditional oily exhaust stains but they are not that clearly visible in the pic. The model is not your modern top of the range and thus expensive variety and has several inaccuracies, the arrestor hook being a good example. The kit is nevertheless a cheap and fun to build. I like her beefy and warlike pose. To sum up. A nice, uncomplicated (if your fingers are small enough to get each rocket on without breaking the others off) model to build. I had fun building her and at the end of the day that is what modeling is all about!!! Groete Marcus

Hi all I have always enjoyed building scale models. Unfortunately I had to leave my collection in SA when we came over to NZ four years ago. The following are some of my first attempts in NZ. The Fw 190 is the 1/72 Airfix kit. I hand painted this model as I did not have a compressor for my my airbrush. Not as smooth a finish as I would have liked but at least I finished it. I have heaps of unfinished models all waiting for a compressor but decided I had to FINISH something before I bought anything new so decided to handpaint the Fw 190. Finishing it was more important then getting it 100% correct!!! The little German reconnaissance set is also from Airfix and are 1/76 scale. Dedicated airbrush compressors are a tad to expensive for me at this time so I went and bought a standard 2HP 24litre compressor at Bunnings for $89 (Dedicated airbrush compressors are going for between $300 - $800 on TradeMe) My first project with the new compressor is the Heller (Airfix) Skyraider. I am building this one “out of the box” as I am using it to “experiment” with the new compressor and my oooollddd airbrush. I must say the first “test” has come out very good. Will finish it in the next few days. Regards Marcus (The SA one, not the hairy one… ;D)

Wow, that's a very good video. The music isn't as bad as I thought it would be The ending was very well done with the Mustang flying past. Nice work, a gold star to your daughter. Hi flyjoe180 Thank you for the kind words... She walked away all smiles feeling very proud of herself after I showed her you comments... She has a "feeling" for the editing side of things... I regularly ask her for her input when I edit my videos when I am out of "creative" thoughts... She is good with her music and writes and composes her own material... Think that is where she gets the "feeling" for the editing. In the following slide show I used some of my army pics ( not NZ) I took in 1987/88... I then added one of her songs, totally original, to the vid and was blown away by the result!! She wrote the song without realising or knowing that I would use it in the vid, I might add. To make sure we don't drift off to far from the topic there are one or two aircraft pics in the vid.... ;D Marcus

Hi all A few years ago... 21 actually.... damnn, we are getting old.... we were given a firepower demo by the air force (this being the SAAF not RNZAF) Two Aermacchi MB-326K or Impalas as we called them strafed the hulk of an old VW Combi van ( where they so named in NZ as well?) They Imps first attacked with 68 mm rockets and then strafed with their two internal 30mm Defa canon. The sound of the 30mm's going off was unbelievable. It sounded more like a "buuurrrpp" then the "rat - tat- tat" commonly associated with machine guns. After the Impalas had gone an Allouette III took over and fired at the wreck with it's 20mm canon. Awesome sound the weapon made.... The Allo would go into a very tight bank/turn above the target and the flight engineer would let rip with the 20mm. Awesome spectacle. Marcus Dust and dirt from the Allouette III's 20mm canon strikes on the "target" The said Allouette III and it's 20mm An old print photo I took of a single seat 326K (Impala)

Hi all
Here is a short vid of the Dakota at SA 2008. The song was written by a chap in the PBI (Poor Bloody Infantry) but is rather apt seeing that NZ3546 represents a "military" aircraft. And yes... we love the sound of those Pratt and Whitney's sighing!!
Colin I nabbed one of your pics for the opening still of the vid. Hope you don't mind but yours was a much better pic then any of mine and fitted in very well with my idea of an lead-in photo!

Hi all Great pics Colin.... Who can identify the forum member with the brown "floppy" hat standing at the tail of the RV 7 ZK-POM? (First pic?) Not as clear but here are some of my pics... Burnout... the RNZAF way... Cessna having fun.... Identify the forum member at the right closest to the cam.... He was standing right in front of me during the show... heh, heh, heh

Hi vgp Heard the Harvard passing overhead this morn as well. Got the family into the car asap (with three women not an easy task) and set off for the airport. Unfortunately just as we got there the Harvard started up after re-fueling and set off back to Ardmore. So no photos! For the new members on the list the following is a link to one of my Youtube vids I posted some time ago showing several Harvard's at Hamilton when the Aero Club took delivery of there new Alpha (Robin) training aircraft. All the best to everybody for 2008 Marcus

Hi all
Not sure which I have posted before but here is three clips of "air show" that took place during the handover of the Alpha A160's at Hamilton last year.
The other two clips are from a year or two back also taken at Hams. If I have posted them before (the last ones I mean I apologize, don't mean to bore you....)

Hi all
Here is a short vid clip I put together of my visit to Black Sands last Sunday. As we only got to Raglan late in the afternoon I only caught the tail end of the visiting aircraft departing… The vid is somewhat “jumpy and bumpy”. I was not the one taking the vid… but can’t say to much about the quality for fear of sleeping outside tonight…. Note the “Hitchcockian” (my own word) touch in the later part of the vid! ;D

Hi all Here are a few of the pics I took at Raglan this afternoon. Only got to Raglan late the afternoon after being at the Armistice commemorations in Cambridge during the morning. Well done to Dave and the rest of the committee on a very well organised and presented event! I was fortunate to meet up with a Bruce late in the day at Raglan. First time I have met somebody from the group. Great chatting to you Bruce! Looking forward to next years event... Here are a few of my pics taken this afternoon. Only a handful of aircraft left by then. Marcus

Hi all
I am Tiaria’s Geography teacher at Dio. I suggested to her that she approach the group with her questions relating to her research topic. I would just like to thank Bruce and David for the useful info and help they have given Tiaira thus far. I am sure she will have more questions in due course.
A bit of background info: My year 13 Geo students are doing two related assessments at the moment. One relates to the role of geography in planning and the second, purely a geographic research project. (The two actually go hand in hand) I wanted the girls to research, interesting “real world” topics. (Some are doing the V8’s, one is doing the Ruapehu lahar and another is looking at the upgrading of Eden Park)
Tiaira is thus looking at the role geography plays in the planning of an airshow and secondly what is the weather criteria for an airshow.
Hope this explains some of her questions.
Thank you once again

Hi all
Here is the last video clip of the Waikato Aero Club “Airshow” trilogy. Unfortunately I made a booboo and did not video the Alpha’s taxing in through the water spray. I only have still photos of it. I gave my still camera to a gentleman standing next to me while I concentrated on the video. In stead of pushing the “record” button I did the opposite and had the cam on “standby”. Ggrrrrrrrrr. Wind noise was still a problem so I have turned down the videos sound somewhat in favor of the music.
All the best

Hi all
Here is the second of the video clips from the Waikato Aero Club’s “airshow” on Sunday. The wind was gusting uncomfortably at times and did not do the video’s sound any favors. I am sure the music will compensate for the "shuddering" sound.
All the best
