Hi all Some eight years ago a friend gave me the ex RNZAF ambulance in you see in the photos below. (The photos were taken today 01/10/2012) I hope to get the ambulance back on the road within a year, budget allowing! She is not a basket case but will need a fair amount of work to get her roadworthy again. The ambulance is an International, of 1954 -1957 era. I am looking for any pics, stories and/or history of this particular ambulance. (I could hardly find anything about this make/model of ambulance on Google.) Any help would be appreciated. Marcus

Hi all My daughter recently returned from a 3 month deployment to the Islands with her ship HMNZS Otago. The following are of Otago and one or two other ships. Otago in Samoa 2012: I am not sure of the nationality of the ship berthed with Otago, OZ maybe? US Navy. Note the containers strategically placed around the ship for protection purposes. This was also in Samoa. Samoan Navy.

Hi all I am sure we have all built the "good old" 1/72 Airfix Beaufighter at some stage in our lives. Here is my latest attempt. Built completely OOB, it is another of my models that has been lying around for the past few years, partially built. Although it is the original archaic moulds I at least assumed the decals would be up to scratch. Shock, horror. The decals literally fell apart. The decals on my model thus do not represent a specific aircraft but are is just representative. The quality of the model and the skills of the builder did not warrant and effort to get new/other decals. At the end of the day did I enjoy building her again? Yes!!!!!!! :-) Marcus

Hi Dave Bearcat: 1st Fighter Squadron, South Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) early 1960's The F8F prototypes were ordered in November 1943 and first flew on 21 August 1944, a mere nine months later. The first production aircraft was delivered in February 1945 and the first squadron, VF-19, was operational by 21 May, but World War II was over before the aircraft saw combat service. Postwar, the F8F became a major U.S. Navy fighter, equipping 24 fighter squadrons. Often mentioned as one of the best-handling piston-engine fighters ever built, its performance was sufficient to outperform many early jets. Its capability for aerobatic performance is illustrated by its selection for the Navy's elite Blue Angels in 1946, who flew it until the team was temporarily disbanded in 1950, during the Korean War. The F9F Panther and McDonnell F2H Banshee largely replaced the Bearcat in USN service, as their performance and other advantages eclipsed piston-engine fighters. Other nations that flew the Bearcat included the French Air Force and Royal Thai Air Force. French aircraft saw combat service against the Viet Minh in the First Indochina War as fighter-bombers in the early 1950s. They were used to support French Forces at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, operating at the edge of their combat radius, but failed to prevent the French defeat that brought about the end of the war. Upon its creation in 1955, nearly 70 surviving aircraft passed to the Vietnam Air Force. The following pics not mine but sourced from the net:

My daughter was on duty when the accident happened about a 100m from the ship. I had been chatting to her 20 minutes before the incident. She was one of the first crew members on the scene. She is not taking it well as the crew had grown into a positive, well trained, collegial group during the past few months.

Hi all Thought you might find the following pics interesting. My daughter is currently serving on Otago. At the end of last year they came back from a patrol in the southern oceans and will be shortly heading off to warmer climates. During the past few weeks they have been doing validity and integration training/manoeuvres with the Seasprite on Otago. Not a lot of deck space for the choppers it seems. :-) Otago has also recently come out of a refit/overhaul hence the pics of the crew and ship in the dry-docks. HMNZS Otago. Down South. December 2011 Otago in the dry-dock at Devonport Naval Base with present crew. This was after the trip down South. Recent photos of the Seasprite working with Otago or should that be the other way araound?

Hi all
Some positive PR from the SAAF. The SAAF has come in for a lot of "stick" during the past few years due mostly to political mismanagement of the organisation. The men and women at the coalface are trying their best to keep the pride and the operational capabilities in the SAAF alive. The following from Beau Skarda a member of this years Silver Falcons display team. "Falcon 5" if I assume correctly. Worthwile comments from him aimed at the youth of SA. One of the team members is the first female pilot in the "Falcons" The vid is good with a great soundtrack

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hi everyone,
Throughout this year I have put together a few video clips of the Silver Falcons using combinations of on-board and external footage contributed by various kind individuals. The purpose of these clips is to promote the South African Air Force and the Silver Falcons by taking the display beyond the borders of the Air Show fence, and allowing all of those who are not always able to make it to "live" displays, to experience what the SAAF has to offer.
Being people who are passionate about the SAAF I trust that many of you will have already seen at least some of these videos, but in the spirit of the statement above, please feel free to share them with as many people as you can - the SAAF is alive and well and offers the best aviation career available to someone who is passionate about flying! (OK I may be a little biased)
The link below is to the latest video that I've uploaded but please have a look at the rest on the channel, and check back often as I have quite a few more in the pipeline.
I hope these clips will provide the inspiration and motivation to all the youngsters that are dreaming of a life in the SAAF : Go for it - It is worth it!
Seasons Greetings,
Beau Skarda

Nice, I was flying BQV on Saturday, she's lovely to fly. This must have been a little while ago as the fence on 23 has gone now. Although it looks like the pilot was using both 05 and 23 that day? Daniel Hi Daniel The footage was shot over two days. The flying shots were taken on the first Monday of the recent school holls. The footage from inside was taken in the beginning of the year. The weather during both flights was fantastic. As we took off during the second flight John pointed in the direction of Tongariro/Ngauruhoe. In the distance the two snow covered volcanoes stood majestic and proud above the green landscape. An awesome sight! Marcus
