Those are truly awesome models!! ;D You have captured the right tones for the camo etc! Stunnining! The Macchi 202 would be a bit tricky, it would depend on where the aircraft was originally based before it became a war trohpy (I presume?). If it turns out like the others you have here it will be a very nice addition to your collection Regards Alan

Even if the laser does half of what is proposed it would be a God send in battle.
Your average kinetic round like sabot/depleted rounds tend to cause an tank to heat up to @ 8000 degrees C (way beyond melting point of average human). Even if the laser caused the tanks to heat up to a point where the crew had to abandon/or cause electronics etc to overheat, it still would be a mission kill and one more tank out of the battle.
Though with an aircraft like that loitering on the fringe of the battle, you can bet for sure the guys on the other side will be targeting that birdy for sure. That in turn would tie up valuable fighter escorts.... Unless the gunner can become really proficient at shooting down SAM's AAM's could be interesting ;D

I believe Aru had it right in his post 4 Ship C 130 Demo team called 4 Horsemen initally Squadron patch had a green weasel which led to the name change thunder weasels being signified by a red lightning bolt through the green weasel See site link members.aol.com/samc130/horsemen.html

During the 1980's a Soviet satellite which had a small nuclear reactor on board came down over Western Canada, no loss of life, but scattered radioactive material over a large area took ages to clean up not to mention health risks to humans, poisoning of water tables etc
Hydrazine is very toxic and explosive so I guess a cautious approach (seemingly anyway) is prudent
I would however wager that, it is chance to show off toys just to convince
1) Russia/China that the US has the hardware so beware.
2) Countries like the Ukraine etc the slated missile defense ring can/will work so join the club...

Some years ago while I was living in Winnipeg, Canada, a passenger plane on finals to Winnipeg Airport flew over the city it self, and as it did so a large chunk of blue toilet fluid which had leaked and solidified at the exterior discharge point fell off and did exactly the same thing. Punched a hole right through 1 or two floors of a high rise apartment building, gave the residents a nasty if not smelly surprise. It weighed a couple of kilos so imagine the force with finals AIS of the aircraft (F=MA (A= velocity/time)) thats a hell of a punch Around this time of year Winnipeg can have daily temps of between -10 to -20 degree C so the air temp up at altitude is @ -60 or less

It's not surprising that China would be doing this... Soviets (Russians now) did it for years, any one must notice the resemblance from some of the current generation of US fighter (F 16/18) and some of the Current Russian types. Doppler/look down shoot down, all acquired through covert means, latest generation AAM's same thing, for years they lagged behind the West in all aspect infra red homing missiles then suddenly they caught up, gee we wonder how??? . If the Chinese have been caught at present, one can bet with a great degree of certainty that they have raided the West for other clandestine info/Intel. They have blatantly copied the Russians for years on other hardware, Russians excuse me Soviets knew and did squat all except in "telling them off in front of the world yet behind the scenes "assisting" them since they were fellow socialist state. It will continue......

Hmmnnn.. F 111's cruising up and down the Tasman... the noise the flame fuel dumps all the time ... might have to say sorry....
Imagine a flightline, row upon row.....Varks paradise ;D ;D
Did we ever say sorry about the F 111 incident over the Franklin Dam? (or do we have to send an apology book around again).....

Circle a US carrier hmm.. sounds a little like throwing down the gauntlet.
May be Putin is ready to resume where his predecessors left off.
He has been pouring extra rubles into defense....
Interestingly enough Putin is of the old guard (ex KGB) same management different brand name....

Thanks for the nice photos The B 36 is looking awfully derelect.... It would be nice if it was restored, I think it's one of only two (whole aircraft) left in ConUS (got one in my stash to build one day) The A4 in the markings of VA 153 Blue Tail Flies still looks pretty good. ;D When you say the "scrapper across the road" are you referring to AMARG (Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center) ? Aka Davis-Monthan AFB, if so cool..... One place I would love to visit..... Thanks again Alan

"LDP Damocles laser illumination container". Interesting use of the term for the laser illumination container. Damocles was in Roman/Greek legend, a slave who swapped places with his king for a day and while at the throne noticed a sharp dagger suspended by a single horse hair hanging over his head.... The king reminded him, when he (the king) reigned it felt like that every day... Wonder if that's how it would be for the Su 30 driver..... Sounds impressive....... but an aircraft is only as good as it's pilot and their training.....

During the 1970's/ early 80's US Navy ran a simulated exercise of an attack on a Carrier Battle group by the Soviet Pacific Fleet Air Arm. Interestingly enough even with picket defense all the way through F 14 CAP and the carriers own defenses, some of the anti ship missiles always got through (at one ton war head each that's enough to ruin your day) Modern ships (much like aircraft) are jammed packed these days and one bomb or even smaller anti ship missile (exocet type) can cause severe damage, even if the war head only does a small amount, remaining burning rocket fuel will kill a small ship/severely damage a ship. Couple of the RN ships were taken out that way (Falklands). A 500 pounder well that's just automatically going to ruin your day end of story... especially thinner hulled ships like cargo/merchant types. Legality aside during WWII British merchant navy had armed ships who could fight off a U boat... why not now?? Legal rules... you can't even shoot the bad guy these days with out consulting a lawyer........ Just imagine during a battle, ships captain asking if they can fire SAMs to defend against incoming missiles, lawyer only if your absolutely sure they are going to hit the ship.. (never mind that the missiles are only a km away...)

US aircraft always have orders when being approached by/approaching foreign aircraft in international airspace to act in a non threatening manner eg stay at a safe distance, don't act aggressively etc. Worked well during Cold war when US a/c took up position to escort Russian (sorry) USSR Bears/badger Elint a/c away from flying into US controlled airspace From what I understand the PLAAF pilot was supposed and I quote "supposed" to be one of their best/most experienced.... Also from what I have read etc the PLAAF pilot was acting in a crazy manner (probably trying to show off.....obviously thought he was Sierra Hotel) when things went south (was more Bravo Sierra) I guess the Chinese couldn't blame their own so it was easier to pin it on the "out wardly aggressive communist hating yankees" Realistically how much ACM could a P3 do ? ya just gotta wonda??

In 2003 (I seem to recall) a couple of PLN ships visited NZ It seems these visiting ships are/were nuclear capable eg carry nuke tipped cruise missiles capable of targeting Con US from South China seas. I did not hear one scream from the greenies etc nor did the current incumbent politburo (the one still in power) take a hard line approach re nukes on ships is no nukes to us...... Interestingly enough these PLN ships had just finished a tour (ahem show of force) around the Pacific rim nations It really seems that if China can continue to keep the worlds eye's on Taiwan etc (crouching tiger) then hidden dragon (eg Navy/air force/army etc) can arm up with the latest techno toys My two bits worth

Hi
Just a question? Did the PLN sub surface in Chinese territorial waters?
Since USN ASW is geared to "Blue Water" operations and in that type of environment ASW operations would have been degraded quite considerably. Advantage PLN
Interesting that the LA class didn't pick up the PLN sub, they're used to operating in/around waters like that. Again though home advantage PLN
Food for thought

In the very early 1980's a F4 crew were flying in Utah, out of Hill AFB at low level. Some thing went wrong with the a/c and crew had to egress. As the ejector sequence was under away, F4 inverted, and both pilot/WSO were punched out straight into the ground. Ouch!!!!!

Dave wrote I hear what you're saying Dave and in hindsight (always 20/20) I would agree. There is a Sheriff in Arizona (US of A) who dresses inmates in his prison in pink clothing etc, feeds them horrible food works them like a chain gang. Has a really low re offending rate These pratts should be made to do the same, if we are worried about chips on their shoulders, then the road into MOTAT II and parking lot needs redoing. chain em up in pink clothing make them work 12 -14 hour days braking up cement/ashpahalt with hammers and make them fix the roads (they are then away from the precious stuff) and the the ribbing they would get would get from their friends should make them think twice before ever re offending Now did I say all that!!!!? Wait a moment, we live in a PC country where they will get a slap with a wet MOTAT Tram ticket (if lucky) and some adult will be answerable as to why these pratts were allowed to be in this position in the first place!! Memo to self go back to words mob and rope and tree and lynch ;D
