Title says it all - probably should be taken with a large pinch of salt ;-)
It's a pity that nobody has written a book on Aero Club flying in NZ post war...at the moment living in the UK and there has been a series of books set in the '40s, 50s and early '60s.

Thanks - it would be interesting with a 180hp engine and no flaps...

Thanks flyjoe180
Always had that muck on the right hand u/c...except when I was the hangar rat I would have been ashamed to see it go away like that :-)
Soloed in it in the '60s and wondered what had happened to it.

Fletcher fu24 wrote Must be about the 100th Cessna to flip on its back at Wellington isn't it? I can remember a few in the '60s plus the odd Tripacer etc...can't recall the airport being closed for long though, a few guys would go out and turn it back on it's gear and push it off. BTW I am flying RDS out of HK...

Living over in the UK at the moment and the area I'm in, the SouthWest, evidently had many Kiwis flying here in the late '60s early '70s.
Anybody out there that did it or knows of anyone that did?
There was an Agwagon written off down the road from here in Bridgwater [Somerset] in the early '70s supposedly flown by a Kiwi.
Interestingly, in this rural area down at the pub Kiwi shearers are remembered with affection also as they used to come over regularly during that time also.

See it's acquired some interesting nose art since I saw it in 1971... :-)

Reading an interesting book by a Kiwi in the LRDG [Long Range Desert Group]...
Not exactly RNZAF but there was a Waco used to liaison with some of the groups and it seems these were flown by various New Zealand private pilots that were in the LRDG.
One name mentioned is FT Barker, doesn't say where in NZ he was from.

Thanks for that - interestingly it is the subject of some debate over here in the UK. Must go up there and see if anyone knows why it has the serial number of one that was supposedly lost.. Ian

Thanks for that great site...fantastic! Interesting; no Luftwaffe claims for that night but a night fighter 'intruder' Mosquito was lost that night almost in the same area. Possibility here that the Mosquito did shoot down the Lysander. No mention of how the Mossie was lost [both crew KIA] and no Luftwaffe claims for a Mossie that night... Ian

Bimbling around France the other day I realised that we were in the area where many SOE Lysander pick ups took place... Having a copy of 'We landed by Moonlight' [excellent book BTW] which has been thumbed through many times I recollected that a Kiwi, James Bathgate was shot down, the only Lysander lost to enemy fire. www.nzrh.org.nz/WWII/WWII_RNZAF/B-C-1943/bathgate-james-robertson-grant.htmlFlew over the area he was killed the next day - he is buried to the NE of this area. Lonely way to go...these pickups were quite incredible and I was wondering if anyone had more info on FO Bathgate? Long shot but does anyone know any sites that have Luftwaffe 'kills' on particular dates or even, dare I say it, Mosquito 'kills' as they were always roaming around.
