ZK-DVE was assembled by NZAI and displayed at the AACA flyin at Bridge Pa in 1974 in primer paint. I recall a NZ build BD-5 was involved in a landing accident in W.A,possibly Perth, about 15 or more years back

Hi Mark, Sorry I'm unable to assist you in procuring a copy of the publication however I knew Alan well when I flew from Hood aerodrome in the late 1960s

My memory just gave a lurch and I recall the legal stouch was not over a DH82 fuselage but over a PA18, so what became of ZK-BAM (if that was the I.D of Dudley's third Tiger) remains a mystery

My records indicate that ZK-BAM was in Dudley Paine's collection in the mid 1970s, perhaps he bought the wreckage or the fuselage from Temple Martin. I visited Dudley's property at Korikipo frequently in the early to mid 1970s and photographed 3 DH82 fuselages amongst other Tiger components. BAM may have been the fuselage that was found to be badly corroded and which resulted in a legal dispute

The three I recall were ZK-ASG which was sold, restored and crashed into sea off Takapuna in Oct 1990, I understand it's being rebuilt. ZK-BAH later restored and now with John Baynes, ZK-BAM looks to have disappeared without trace although I think it was sold and the airframe found to have significant corrosion and unsalvageable. Tony Payne may still own Rearwin ZK-AKF which a few years back was being restored by Robert McNair

Dudley Paine was instrumental in forming Otaki Aero Club and developing the airfield. He later became a motelier in Napier and acquired a collection of derelict Tiger Moth airframes. His son Tony who I think still lives in Auckland has a large collection of aircraft. I remember travelling to an air display at Otaki around 1960 and flew in there a couple of times in Tom Hullena's C180 ZK-BUF in 1969/70

I don't believe you are immune to that behaviour in first-class either these days. Recently a passenger in first-class on an Indian airline aircraft, cannot recall name of the carrier, urinated over a fellow traveller. At least the chap on the Cook Straits Airways flight didn't go that far

Graeme Brough was killed in an accident involving Barr Bros (HB) Airtruk ZK-DMZ on 6 March 1974 at Pukenui Station.

I think BWW was initially in a polished metal with red trim scheme prior to a repaint in WAC colours

Somewhere iny collection I have a photograph of Miles ZK-ANJ Rongotai demise. The instructor was Frank Wright however I'm unable to recall the pupils name. Many year after the accident Frank told me it was the result of side slipping with flaps applied.

Very pleasing to learn that the valuable collection has come through relatively damaged

I think Ivan owned DH82 ZK-ATM in the early 1970s I purchased a large collection of Tiger Moth parts and BA hardware around 1975 and I'm sure I bought them from him

I wonder how the owners of the aircraft projects being restored feel about that

Thanks Dave, it certainly appears as if things have ground to a halt which is a shame given the number of relatively rare aircraft stored there in varying stages of restoration

Still on the subject of Croydon Aviation Mandeville, does anyone know what the current situation is there? I don't recall hearing of any completed restoration project emerging from there for quite some time

When I was a young lad in the 1950s and hung around Rongotai aerodrome after school their was a pile of wings, mainly DH82, leaning against a wall in the Council hangar. One of the wings, which was brown or dark red in colour and shorter than the others was,I was told by an Aircraft Engineering mechanic, off a Waco. I suspect it was probably from ZK-AEL

Yes, much later than I too thought. I originally have visions of it being in the 1960/70 era when the aviation scene was much much smaller than it is today and everyone knew eachother.
