BHL showing off for the Queen at Taieri in 197? Unfortunatly this the only photo I have of BHL,my best mate was killed in it at Middlemarch on 8/8/78. He was a loader for James at Taieri, done his commercial, got a FU-24 rating, but was a bit of a rebel so they wouldn't train him, so the pilot was training on the sly and he hit the hill. Does any one have a photo from that area, it was rebuilt.

You Know how close something has to be with an instamatic camera in the good old days, this photo is one of them, we had two aircraft working off the strip so I,(being young and dumb) thought it would be a great idea to snuggle up against the fence at the bottom of the strip and wait for the approaching 400 and snap a cracker. As I clicked the shutter the fletcher roared overhead not very far up,got the biggest fright ever, my heart skipped a few beats and a good rev-up from the pilot as well.

The shed in the first photo used to be full of barrells of Wilsons whiskey before F & P bought it. I grew up at North Tareri and we used to swim in the pool at the old airport complex, and spent many many days playing around those buildings.

I do know of a tiger that flew in for a C Of A, and when the fabric on a wing was opened up some of the rib gussets landed on the ground. I still think a properly built wooden aircraft is stronger than a riveted one. All the joints are spliced together they are glued all the way, rivets are only every inch. Wood dosen't remember stress. and they don't grow alluminium trees.

Hi, this is mainly for Peter. A friends son who is doing pest control came across some old bits in the Maniototo. I have seen it from the air years ago. I think it is an airtourer from the early 70s, crashed in a gully in the Wedderburn stream between the dam and little Mt Ida that has the television repeater on it. I think it started a fire and was later covered by a slip, not sure of the fate of the crew.recent snow melt must have washed away some of the slip, any info greatfull.
