Hi Dave, it was CTO. Mt Cook airlines operated CTO and BHK out of Farlie for a number of years. They then bought Central Aviation and ran about 10 or 12 aircraft including using 185 for dropping carrots in the off-season from tourists.

Zac the engine was ripped out in the forced landing so it might have another rebuilt attached.

Bit of an update, the wings are in progress being fabriced. Engine in with a prop on the front. Steady progress at the moment. Check out the facebook page of Ashburton Aviation Museum

Hi GK, thanks for that, he was known as a grumpy bugger, but when you got to know him he had a sense of humour.I have some more of the same set if you want to send me your e-mail I will send them to you. Do you have any photos of him, particularly of his helicopter the bell 47 he flew for Central.

There was a doco on the ski hercs on "Mighty Planes" on Discovery a couple of weeks ago. They are used in the northern hemisphere for their winter then come down south for the term.Interesting to see them using Jato bottles, they only burn for 14 seconds, so they got up to nearly flying speed then lit them and just hauled it off the ground.

Thanks again Bruce for sending down the SAA info.Yes a well placed exibit certainly helps as a steady stream on lookers came through all day every day. I was pleased it didn't rain as the place would have packed out.
