I am looking for a good photo, or drawing showing the markings applied to the left side of the cockpit on TA-4's in the final "one colour green" scheme.
I have a couple of sketchy photos, but nothing that gives me the detail I am looking for.
Cheers SeanG

I just got back from a weeks work in Kuwait, and it is pretty amazing to see that reminders of the war are everywhere; There are air raid shelters in the airport, and at the hotel. Our driver had some "interesting" opinions on the war, which he seemed only too keen to share on the longest 30 minute drive I have even experienced SeanG

The helicopter survival vests are totally different nowadays from the ones I used to service by the look of it. Does anyone have decent phoptos of the 1990's version (green mesh) and these modern camouflaged ones to make a comparison perhaps? Is there an inflatable life preserver under that camouflaged collar on the vest? If it is the same as the one's used on the Airtrainers in the late 80's then I have one in my collection... I can take photos if you're interested? SeanG

In the ACF days the Skyhawk pilots would carry L9A1 Browning pistols. How and where were the Brownings carried? Was it a holster attached to the vest or a separate item? SeanG

I have seen photos of F-4's and A-4's repaired in the field in Vietnam with flattened beer cans used to patch holes. I know a guy who bought the cockpit of an F-4 which ended it's career as a battle damage repair trainer... he said you would not believe some of the materials used in patch jobs SeanG

Man did I really say all that! <lol>
Yeah the old sim was pretty low tech compared with what I am building now. The first one was made for the museum, and was fine for what they wanted it for, not so good for building into a sim!
I hope to do a bit more work on the TA-4 when I get a little time.. work's just a little busy to spend much time on my sim project (Oh and I build sims for a living, so how sad would I be if I built sims in my spare time!... oh... hang on)

Gidday! Since my last post I have managed to get a lot of the sketches and photos I have pulled together into some resonable looking drawings of the main front panel by a friendly AutoCad guru, so the project is moving along nicely again. My webpage hasn't been updated for ages, I moved to Christchurch and the "old" A-4 project didn't make the trip On the up side, I now build simulators for a living so the new project (TA-4K) will be a whole generation better than the old one As for infor that I am after, If I can get a few accurate dimensions I can derive the rest from good quality photos like: www.dodmedia.osd.mil/Assets/1984/Navy/DN-SN-84-00441.JPEGCritical stuff for me is to get the forward windscreen dimensions right, then I can work everything back from there. Its all fun and games in this hobby ;-) Cheers Sean

Yeah so I understand. Ahh well. I have had an email from a guy in the states who has a TA-4J cockpit section. Hopefully I can get the basic dimensions from that. Then, with all the photos I have taken so far, plus loads of diagrams (from the Skyhawk AVINTRO) I should be able to get it at least close SeanG

Greetings all,
I am in the process of designing a TA-4K simulator cockpit, and I am on the scrounge...
Does anyone have any drawings of the TA-4, specifically the cockpit section?
I have built an A-4 sim once before, but the only dimensions I had were those of the shell which was built by someone else. This time I intend doing it properly and building something accurately dimensioned, and building it "properly"
Alternately, if anyone has a contact at Woodbourne, who has access to the TA-4's and would be willing to take some dimensions for me....
It is a big ask I know, but I'd be gratefull for any help.

How was the Oxygen mask connected to the aircraft and bailout bottle in the RNZAF A-4's? Was it via something like the CRU-60? ...and what sorts of conversions were required to adapt the P/Q Masks to the US systems?
