Hi Brian, Welcome to the forum. Neat project, keep us posted on it please. I have a phtoo that has the aircraft in it, but sadly it's not well lit, I assume the sun was behind it. It may be slightly helpful at any rate: A closer and lightened look at Aline. This photo comes from Tony Pierard's collection, who flew Corsairs in No's 20 and 17 Squadrons. How's the Seaspite coming along, catbalu?

Thanks for the speedy reply. While she is not very clear in the photo, at least I can see her stance, a typical 40's glamour pose by the look of it. The picture helps in other ways to; a great shot of the pitot, and exact detail and sizing of the lettering '385' and 'ALINE'. Being a scale modeller is a curse of a disease, you can never stop nit-picking details. cheers Brian Attachments:

Albie Rountree, who is the guy I restored the Tiger Moth model for, is ex 23 Squadron so next time I see him I will ask if he has any recollection of the colours. Bit of a long shot as it was a long time ago.

Yes, I have a photocopy of that info. The drawing doesn't match the picture that well, and in the photo she is not as faded as in the one above, but is much smaller so your photo adds a bit more certainty about how she will be painted. Now I just have to find a friend or relative with the skill to do it for me, I'm no artist.

The aircraft would have been with a servicing unit and flown with several different squadrons. The only distinguishing marking to tie in with No. 23 Squadron would have been the ghst emblem, applied while they used it, I guess. But as mentioned Tony was in No.'s 20 and 17 Squadrons, never in 23, yet it was among his photos.

It may very well be Dave, that it was a marking applied by someone in the SU, not the pilot. Thery did it with Gloria Lyons so maybe the groundie asigned to 5385 had a girlfriend/wife/lover called Aline?

What a cool thread this is. I was there, too, Dave, watching Ron's performance. (And other days depicted here.) When his Herk augered in there was a minute or less of stunned silence. Apparently, and correct me if I'm wrong, Ron had a signal safety cutout. It locked controls when an external signal on the same freq interfered. Unfortunately for Ron he was nose-down in a medium rate left turn, as far as I recall. Not a bad plan around Eeky-Squeaky, with all those signals flying about Woody.
That P-40 is a most excellent buld.

My contributions: Note that i am more of a simple builder and flyer, rather than a hard out scale detailer. I wish i was though! My rule is if i can't see the detail when it flies past, then it doesn't get it. In no particular order: 1/7th 62" scale Corsair, i know it isn't finished... Work in progress. But I promise it will be in NZ colours! Spit is 46" span, in glossy 485 markings. Sort of. But a great plane. Tiger is 72", labour of love, a lot more detail in it, but not actually finished yet, just needs some more markings. Will be in NZ WW2 trainer markings. Small foam P-40, NZ pacific colours, never got around to making any decals. Typhoon you chaps will have seen a few days ago, likely to end up 197 Sqn, Kiwi pilot's mount, or 486 anyway. And my latest needs no introduction:

Cool! Yes I can see designing that to work would be a bit tricky.
