No plane but I was given a remote control and a few bits and pieces from a friend... Always wanted an rc plane but can't see it happening! The rc unit is still in the box and I'm happy to pass it on to someone if it would be helpful... Just gathering dust at my place!

Just thought I'd show a couple of pics of my Hobbyking /Durafly Vampire done up in 75 Squadron markings for fun... will redo the serials on the booms properly and add them under-wing as well, once I have got the hang of flying her right! Need to add 75 Sqn crest under cockpit and redo ejection triangles too. Took the pics just before the maiden flight - lacked power, so needed to reprogram the ESC, but manage to not crash so all good!

That's very cool!
Hobbyking make a few Mosquitos: I'm tempted to buy one (when I can) and see if I can't repaint it as an RNZAF option or, at the least, KA114.

ianbw, you actually need to delete the triangles, single seat Vampires were NOT fitted with ejection seats.

I have customized 3 foamie RC planes. Great fun. Photos found here on 'Wings Over New Zealand' helped no end....thanks. 1 - Dynam Tiger Moth 1270mm WS as NZ1448 2 - HobbyKing P40n 1700mm WS as NZ3246 3 - Art-tech AT-6 Texan 956mm WS as NZ987 They are all planes my dad flew during WW2. To stay thematic I'll need to do a Corsair one day. The Kittyhawk is yet to fly so remains an unknown quantity. I have added a lot of weight to it so not sure how or even if it will fly. The Harvard flies well but has also crashed (my fault) and needs fixing. However the Tiger Moth flies so well I haven't crashed it......yet. Still only a beginner at RC. Here is a rather self-indulgent video of the Tiger Moth.

Really nice models Brenton, you've made a great job of these. They look quite large too next to the ginger cat. Well done.

I should alert you to what some of our Aussie mates have been doing with their Hobby King P40n's. If you wait for me to fly mine you may wait a long time and even then be some what disappointed. Little over weight I fear. Remember it's a 1700 WS and it looks 'bloody fantastic !" Wonderful airframe...not so good on the electronics. linkThis one has been around the block a few times pretty much stock but for the custom paint job and still going strong. linkThey just need a NZ livery.

An update on my RC model of NZ3246. I got my friend Steve to maiden her for me. It was tricky to fly as the aileron throws were way too big. He did the best he could on the day and as the damage was minimal I was very pleased. The plane is about 3 lbs. heavier than stock HK P40n's and weighs in at just under 13 lbs. I made some scale props for her as well.

Excellent maiden flight Brenton. Well done. Looks very realistic in the air. I've seen this aircraft in the flesh and it is a magnificent model in itself. A great effort mate. Cheers Wally.

Thanks Wally. I wish I had your painting skills because if we get her flying well that will be the next job. Like your Wellington.

Cheers Brent. I reckon you have underrated your own painting skills. It's a pretty good, somewhat worn Olive Drab look to me. I also reckon your smooth finish looks better than the trench-like panel lines in the OOB version.

Had this gem for a while and always wanted to do her in a different scheme, spent last ANZAC day watching various shows on the telly and being an ex-pat Cantabrian thought I would do her up in RNZAF markings. She came in the famous and often seen American Volunteer Group (AVG) markings, while those sharks tooth markings are cool but hey something different. So during the painting process thought I would get some pic's of her with the sharks teeth still there, a what if so to speak. While the teeth look okay on a P 40 I have never been a fan. You have to be careful which paint you use, turps based paint will melt the foam, got some great Ventura decals which are 1/32nd scale, this one measures slightly bigger than 1/32nd but the decals don't look too small. The pilot from an old Revell Spitfire kit, made him move-able as I am going to get the Parkzone Corsair and want my pilot to be able to jump ship!. Used pastels for the weathering, note the well used guns. I realise she is by no means accurate and probably a mistake to paint her up before a maiden but what the! P 40 one of my all time favorite single engine fighters, very under-rated, well armed and looks the goods, hopefully some pic's of her flying soon!
