Well travelled fert, railed to Horomanga siding from the Mount , unloaaded by clamshell, 10 miles by Bedford to Galatea field and then 70 miles by Dak at [by my chart] no less than 3000 feet A S L. Probably we can guess why it did not become a regular occurence.

Dave, was there a political reason for not doing Matawai out of Gisborne?

thomarse, not that I know of. Think it was all on price. In later years the same jobs were done off Whakatane.

What sort of swath width did you work on, Dave? About a wingspan?

It always looked like a nice pattern, from sowing pictures I have seen. What sort of hourly rate was the DC 3 returning at the end?

John. Don't know what the hourly rate was at the end. I last flew AZL in 1974.

John. Don't know what the hourly rate was at the end. I last flew AZL in 1974. I have asked you this before Dave but you are the only person to have flown a Dak on a Private Pilots Licence ;D

Does anyone have any photos of CAW when owned by WAW/Richmond Harding? As far as I know it never flew operationally but was at Wanganui Airport for a time.

Hey Mr Starr.... many years ago,a course I was on went into great detail about how to hand start a dak with the leather caps that go over the blade tips,a long rope and a team of blokes to pull it...... The instructor went on to say that James Av had refined this somewhat by using a Fiat Bambina instead of the blokes. Please tell me this is not true.....

That method was definitely used at Ardmore to start Corsairs in WWII due to a shortage of starter cartridges, they used manpower on the rope, not a car. There's even a photo of this in Warrem Russell's Corsair Special book.

So how many pilots were there, that had a single pilot rating in the DC-3?
