New to this forum. My friend is the current of a bar in Gisborne called Smash Palace and this is the resting place of DC3 ZK-BKD. I'm trying to compile a history video for this aircraft. I see quite a few photos here and I'm wondering if the owners of these photos would be prepared to share them. All help greatly appreciated.

I think Iceland had one topdressing Dak? Seen footage of it on Youtube. Someone asked if NZ was the only country that had them. Yes they did and the hopper was from New Zealand new. Found this link: www.ruudleeuw.com/iceland07.htm Now registered TF-NPK - rather appropriate "While this DC-3 is flown by the Icelandic DC-3 Friends, it is still owned by the Government of Iceland. It remains in the configuration of its previous occupation: sprayer of fertilizer for the Soil Conservation Service, fighting the rampant surface erosion on this island.
Icelandair donated TF-ISH to Landgraedsla ríkisins (The State Soil Conservation Service) in 1972. It was converted for top-dressing based on the New Zealand model and re-registered."
TF-NPK is still registered in the ownership of Landgraedsla ríkisins, however the operator is officially the Icelandic DC-3 Friends."

Now registered TF-NPK - rather appropriate I think I'm being a bit dense - why is that appropriate? I read Ruud's entry on the aircraft and can't connect these dots.

nitrogen
The hopper for this aircraft was a New Fieldair one. The aircraft was used for aerial topdressing and seeding.....not, spraying.

NPK: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) main constituents of fertilizer. I added the details and photos because of the Kiwi connection regarding the hopper.

nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) main constituents of fertilizer. Thank you, I didn't know that.

Just like here with our regos and personalised plates.

"My friend is the current of a bar in Gisborne called Smash Palace..." Owner? Proprietor? Barman? Manager? Cleaner? Bouncer? Proper-upper? Yard-glass record holder? ...

I drove past Te Kōwhai today. It looks like AZL is no longer there. Anyone know where it’s gone?

It has moved to the car museum closer into the city. Been there several months now. The poor aircraft was rotting away at Te Kowhai, so the guys at the car museum hope to save it.

I drove past Te Kōwhai today. It looks like AZL is no longer there. Anyone know where it’s gone? Just briefly, the Classics Museum (the car museum in Hamilton) has purchased AZL and shifted it to their workshop a few months ago. Once a couple of major car restorations are finished the team will start work on it. Unfortunately it's condition really did suffer out in the elements. The museum will do it's best to repair the worst corrosion, treat the rest and give it a repaint. Ultimate plans are to house it indoors with other other aviation exhibits, but that is a long term goal. We will get some photos together and a full story of the plans soon. Cheers

Great stuff Chris. It's wartime RNZAF colours would look great. But I guess as it is quite special, being the world's first AgDak, a repaint in the James colours would also be good.
