A fellow today told me he was going to throw out a Hoper Box from a Hopper once fitted to a DH82. I understand it is just the box on the bottom. The Hopper itself is already discarded. Any takers?

We should record that, thanks to the foresight of Hallett, Agricola BXO is back in NZ and has made a few flights recently

Fantastic! I popped in for a look recently (keeping a respectable distance) and it was very exciting to see it there.

Let's not allow another appalling piece of crap journalism to spoil the true importance of the event. "Topsoiling"

Not to mention grammar, spelling and factual mistakes: "including two rare vintage aircrafts". There are two mistakes in these four words "and a Auster Agricloa", "Hallett Griffen" (spelt correctly elsewhere) and "Only eight Austers were built in England."

Can anyone out there tell me anything about Bruce Cunningham's involvement with Associated Farmers Aerial Work Ltd? He was an Accountant based in Wellington and only stopped full time accountancy when aged 94.The company was the main one involved with the Agricolas. I am doing an article for Gliding NZ magazine following the occasion of his 100th birthday at Easter. I do have some information supplied by him to someone else, who in turn sent it to me but would be interested to know any other details out there. Thanks.

The Whites Air Directories of the early 1960s gives the registered office of AFAW as PO Box 451 Wellington, The operating area was, of course, Martinborough. So the Wellington PO Box could have been you man's office address.

So the Wellington PO Box could have been you man's office address. You are indeed correct Peter. Thank you. Bruce's box number in Wellington was 451. He tells the story about working for a topdressing co in the Wairarapa years ago, and the Auster Agricola, which he thought an ugly aeroplane, but very good for the purpose. He arranged to get all the remaining spares for these from Auster in England – for 5000 pounds, after telling them we were the only people using them! They were duly sent here via KLM with enough spares to make two aircraft. So now we have a little bit more about the type's history in New Zealand.

Bruce developed many a loyal reputation. He has been bestowed Life Membership by seven organisations; namely the Wellington Aero Club, Wellington RSA, NZ Motion Picture Assn, Gliding NZ, Wellington Floral Art Club, Wellington Master Painters’ Assn and also their national body; the NZ Master Painters’ Assn.
He spent several years on the Royal NZ Aero Club Executive, serving two years as President. Then there were his 15 years as Secretary of the Commercial Pilots’ Assn, which acted for aero club and topdressing pilots.
Although he never took up gliding, he was the NZ Gliding Assn Accountant for 44 years (1966 -2010)
