"W77024" Isn't this more likely a 1958 service number?

Sad that another great of the air force Stu Boys has passed. Another great man to talk to about his flying career especially his tour of 14 squadron in Singapore and his aerobatic team tours. Always interested in what was being done to preserve the air force's history. If I am correct he was on the board of trustees for the museum. Fair weather flying Stu

From other sources, Charlie Garner was 30 years in the RNZAF from 1950s, so oj (14th March) was on the money; I knew Charlie fairly well.

Another one on Facebook, S/L Frank Sharman An interesting name. A Mr Frank (FAH) Sharman was the pilot of Gipsy Moth ZK-AAI when it crashed from a turn at low level in a landing competition at Hokitika on 21/3/1937. Mr Sharman received a serious head injury and was rushed to Westport Hospital. He recovered and passed away in 1959. Sharman is not a common name and I wonder if S/L Frank Sharman was related to FAH Sharman. Possibly Frank Sharman Jnr?

Frederick Albert Henry Sharman died in 1959. aged 56. The Frank Sharman referred to is Squadron Leader Sharman who was with 30 SQN ATC for 18 years. I do not have access to Facebook but 30 Squadron ATC has their home page there and there is an obituary for Squadron Leader Sharman on that. So far as I am aware he was not an aviator, but had a military background with (from shaky memory) the Coldstream Guards. He related to me once about guard duty at Buckingham Palace with his regiment. I remember him well from ATC courses in the late 80s and early 90s. Had many 'methods' (cheats) for keeping uniforms tidy and pressed, shoes mirror like, and although he had a voice that could boom across an airfield, he was to me a soft spoken gentleman who carried a potentially very big stick. RIP Squadron Leader Sharman.

Murray was a personal friend at Ohakea in the mid-1960's. I recall that when he de-mobbed, he was living in the Arapuni Power Station village. Sadly, we never met up again after RNZAF service (or possibly just once).
