Quite a shock. Anthony Galbraith let me know this morning and he was shocked as he had only been talking to Brent only yesterday. What a loss for his family and aviation in New Zealand.

What a huge loss to his family, and the NZ aviation community. Apart from his long career in NZ aviation and his entrepreneurial skills, he was a major contributor to warbird operations that gave great satisfaction to the enthusiasts. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brett

Thanks Pete Vause I'll copy a post I left as a tribute on one of the many social media pages dedicated to Brett Emeny's passing, I had quite a bit to do with him over many years, serving in the Catalina Group's operational committee for over 20 years: Brett was a really nice bloke who loved to share his passion in aviation. I can remember flying with him once in the Vampire out of New Plymouth, he gave me the controls shortly after takeoff!!! Later (with Brett safely back in control), we flew 'low' up one of the valleys along the Kaitake and Pouakai Ranges (I'm sure I saw a wood pidgeon fly past as we shot past the tree canopies at 450knots!), dropped by to see the film set for the Tom Cruise Last Samurai movie (it was a non-filming day) and then spiral climbed over the top of Mt. Taranaki (possibly inverted at the top?). We then completed a loop over Straftord, pulling about 4G in the process (I was caught somewhat unawares and was somewhat pinned against the starboard side of the canopy ). Then it was back to New Plymouth Airport, where he performed a buzz and break, finishing with an 8-point barrel roll before landing...An awesome experience I'll never forget ! Thanks for this and all the other experiences Brett, Rest In Peace Brett was keen to share experiences, at AGMs and other Catalina flying days/events he'd occasionally take some of us Catalina Crew up for a spin in whichever plane/helicopter he had brought with him from New Plymouth. I remember one occasion throwing about 14 of us in the back of his Bell UH-1 at Ardmore and taking us for a spin through the Hunuas. My Father's cousin had come along for a Catalina flight that particular day and found himself with a seat in the Huey as well. He keeps reminding me to this day of the experience he had flying at low level in a 'real' Vietnam era helicopter!
