Oh goodness, sad to see him pass away but 100 years old is very impressive.
I was contacted by a Herald journalist only last week hoping to contact Guy about the incident with Dave Allan's death. I guess he may not have tracked Guy down in the end.

I guess he may not have tracked Guy down in the end. Interesting too that Guy is the second mention on forum threads we have had in less than a month where someone has been involved in a fatal RNZAF Tiger Moth incident and a survivor has lived to be 100. The other one I am referring to is Phillip Stewart who spoke at the 30 June forum meeting in Christchurch. Do we know of any more candidates ...

Here's a bit of a coincidence - I was going to mention that M H (Morrie) Hoy, who, if he is still with us, would be in his 90s, survived a fatal Tiger accident and flew for many years after - he was still towing gliders at the Upper Valley Club into the 1980s. While checking my facts, I found that the Tiger accident which Morrie survived was the one that NZ724 didn't survive - NZ724 being the aircraft from which S/L Allan fell!

I have just received an email from a long time member of the Upper Valley Gliding Club regarding Morrie Hoy. Quote:Morrie was chief tow pilot for Upper Valley Gliding Club for many years up to about 1980 I believe, my time started with the club in 1982, by which time Morrie had left the club and moved to Auckland, at least that is my understanding. Contact with a couple of our older members seems to suggest that he passed away a few years ago according to our collective memories, but no confirmation, if anything more reliable turns up (Peter) I will drop you a line. Unquote. That's all that can be added for now.
