Hi Errol, I have been confused in the past over Brian's names. The phone directory had him as B.K. Baber too.
I asked him when I was there one day and I'm sure he said that somewhere along the way someone got it wrong, but his names were definately officially as the death notice states, from memory. He was never known as Kevern, always Brian to family and friends, and in the RNZAF was known as 'Babe' Baber. He has also been spuriously called Bryan Baber which is wrong, and also Kevin, which is wrong too.
I have an interview with him on tape somewhere so if I find out what he said for sure I'll try to remember to put it here.

Gordon Reader - now there's a name from the past.
Early Bird Flying, mid 60s?- his a/c were in a photo post not long ago, Rugby, Racing and Beer. Racing was obviously the Moth, but I don't recall which was which of the Moth Minor and Rearwin. Just think how popular they would be in you could hire them these days!
Anyone know any more of Gordon's flying career in New Zealand? Last time I heard of him, he was boarding with an aquaintance of mine in Palmerston North.

Gordon owned DH60G Moth ZK-AEJ from September 1966 (in his own name) to November 1984 (under Early Bird), but it was taken out of the air in January 1971. This was 'Racing'. I also have him as owner of DH60G ZK-ADT from April 1970 to August 1972, but I don't think it ever flew during that time. Rearwin ZK-AKF was 'Rugby' and Moth Minor ZK-BFP was 'Beer'.

From Aerohub: AeroHub has posted a new item, 'We remember Max McEeen'
Max McEwen - Hawkes Bay & East Coast Aero Club Life Member
It is with sadness that I have to advise Max McEwen passed away last Sunday evening. He was 89. Max was a Life Member of the HB&EC Aero Club, WW 2 fighter pilot veteran, and a real personality with a razor sense of humour.
