Shorty, I remember Mike quite well and hope I can get to the funeral. Recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire at mother in laws place. Looking at his service no. I would have said he joined earlier than '68, more likely '63 or '64?

His Herald death notice which I had already posted above (along with the same notice that Shorty just posted) stated "Proudly served his country for 29 years". If he got out in 1989 that equates to 1960, unless he served the country in more than one way.

I think SQN LDR Neil was OC 2TTS when I was there in 1985/86. I remember him as a normally quiet man who came out of his shell at the 2TTS happy hours and could skull a beer as good as the rest of us! RIP Sir.

I would agree re his serial number, although the maths re the length of service ties in although his age means he would have been about 27 when he joined which seems older than the average?

I can remember him as a baggie, and yes, Don, he was OC at 2TTS about then (I was on NATTS at that time). He did enjoy a beer with the boys and had quite a good sense of humour. Always seemed to look very serious though - kept quite a few trainees on their toes, but knew his trade well.

Our paths must have crossed from 1968 but sadly I don't recall him. RIP

Don, apparently he was one of the technicians who went to the USA to train up on the Skyhawks in 1969.

He was a corporal by then, so joining in 1968 does not gel.

I didn't know that Dave. I remember him telling us about his involvement with "Rigel" the first Orion upgrade.
