Hi guys
Great news, Ian Munro called me this morning. We had a great chat. He was telling me that it was probably the helmet that he was instructing with in the late nineties. His student pulled the canopy jetteson and he copped a few marks on it from everything exiting the cockpit at high speed! Glad I didnt replace the visor then!
Anyway long story short........I contacted Trade Me and advised it wasnt really my helmet to sell and they withdrew it. It is now going back to its rightful owner. It couldnt have had a better outcome.
Ian's coming over tomorrow arvo for a cuppa and he will get his old helmet back. Looking forward to meeting him. Small world actually, he knows several of my friends who work/fly for Air NZ also!
If anyone has a spare P type mask, he is looking for one to go with it now.
All n all a great outcome!
One day I will get another.......hopefully
Cheers Anthony

Don't mean to sound like a planespotter, Too late my friend! Anorak is standard kit for high posting members............damn thats me too!! ;D You've just given me a 'great' idea, Baz! Dave, maybe we can develope a range of Wings Over New Zealand clothing, including a range of natty anoraks? ;D Anthony, that is great news that you got to meet Mr Munro, and were able to re-unite him with his helmet.

We should talk about the clothing range Craig. As you'll recall we discussed getting forum T-shirts made years ago when the forum was tiny. Maybe now there's enough members to make it worthwhile. And a forum anorak isn't a bad idea, or perhaps caps too. Maybe even forum logo dust masks for Omaka and Wanaka? ;D

Well I totally understand, it has happened to me as well in the past and it is annoying.
However, cut me some slack. I can assure you that more than anyone I would have loved to leave it on Trade Me and see the bidding hopefully go crazy, heaven knows I need all the $$ I can get for my rebuild!!
I felt a loyalty to one of our ex servicemen to have his old helmet back more than anything, and that to me is worth more than potentially how much money I may have ended up getting for it.
Have I made a mistake.....maybe? Am I happy this guy is reunited with his old helmet that holds special memories? Sure am.
Am I going to debate this any longer....no
I am sorry to anyone who felt I mucked them around.....
Cheers Anthony

Why on earth should we hang our heads in shame? A article was listed then withdrawn for reasons which he lied to trademe about. He stated to trademe his reasons for withdrawing it was that he didnt own the helmet, which we all no is complete bullshit, he owned it fair n square! At the end of the day sure its great the user of the helmet has got it back (note USER not owner, the owner was the nz gov) But its still a bit crap that the auction was withdrawn. But hey at the end of the day who really gives a toss.

Whilst it would be great to have a genuine skyhawk helmet on the shelf- and I was a watcher and probable bidder on the afore mentioned auction- I am totally in support of it going back to its previous owner/user. (are all service personell not ours already? as we pay for them, and therefore own ) If we wait another month or two I am sure that whole skyhawks will be featuring on trademe!

shame for the rest of us that were waiting to bid on it, if u didnt want to sell it dont list it in the first place. If you wanted it so badly, why didn't you bid on it straight away? I'm sure that if there was more bid on the helmet lodged through TradeMe, then Anthony wouldn't have withdrawn it from sale. After all, it was listed for at least four days, and apparently had only one bid on it, which was from the pilot's sister. Anyway, it's gone now. I'm sure another one will appear on TradeMe one day.
