They're not much use without the Skyhawk! Get over it! Yeah, but once the Skyhawks appear on TradeMe, then he could have had the full set - helmet and A-4K! ;D

I think you're only entitled to moan about a listing withdrawal if you're the one leading the bid. I have no doubt that Ian's sister is happy to achieve the result without having to fork the $$.
The whole ""Awww...I was going to bid..." is like saying I was going to buy a lotto ticket.
Man up.

They certainly are, what a kit out for the Scooter. That pass at 1:10 is rather low.

Those guys on the ground must have had their ears ringing. I was at Ohakea musuem when the 2nd Nowra agreement was signed and my wife and I were enjoying a coffee on the deck in the sun watching the Histroric Flight Tiger Moth and Harvard doing some loops.Once they landed we thought that was nice and then all of a sudden out of no were 4 Skyhawks came very low level at differant angles over the museum.....talk about shit yourself...I did....clapped out my arse Helen.

So ... LM could upgrade the RNZAF's A-4K's to a similar standard .... but the Govt doesn't want to pay?
The MB339's could be re-engined and new digital cockpit suite installed ... but the Govt doesn't want to pay?
What's really going on?
The Argentine (ex-US A-4M's) must only be approx 10 years younger than the A-4K's (last A-4M produced in 1979 etc).

I think you have hit the nail on the head Nige. They are prepared to spend lots on new turboprop trainers (both single engine and twins) by the looks of it, but don't want to spend a whole lot less to fix the Macchis which would have at least gotten us back into the jet business. I don't know the real reasons behind it but given the very poor "advice" successive Governments have been given over the last 10 years on various Defence projects I think they are being sold a story that suits certain individual and companies interests rather than NZ's!
There is also a real lack of political courage and leadership evident. Where has the RNZAF engineering's "can do" attitude gone that was so prevalent 10-15 years ago? I think they are spending so much time navel gazing these days and trying to find ways to be more "efficient" that their leadership have lost sight of the bigger picture.
Anyway, back to my favorite subject - Skyhawks! The Argentine A-4 upgrade is VERY similar to Kahu, just 10 years newer technology. They actually copied a lot of it which upset Smiths Industries who did Kahu but didn't win the contract to upgrade the Argie jets. But Smiths got the last laugh. While the hardware is slightly better than our Kahu system, their system integration is no where near as good. They had a heap of software trouble with weapon delivery accuracy early on and I think in the end got Smiths in to fix it! I hear from a contact in Argentina that fewer than a dozen of their Skyhawks are operational now due to severe budget cuts and a lack of spares.

Don why did Argentina not buy our Skyhawk fleet even if they used them for spares? Just seems odd if they are short of spares for their own ones.
I agree that both leaders within Government and within the Defence seem to lack a "clear" vision of where they are heading.

I agree that both leaders within Government and within the Defence seem to lack a "clear" vision of where they are heading. Perhaps because they have upgraded A-4Ms and ours were essentially upgraded A-4Es, and our dodgy old Skyhawks are are not exactly a source of authorised aviation spares.

Welcome to the forum undeze. That's a great photo.
Were you on the 6/92 flying training course? If you're that same Undeze, I was on your Wise Owl exercise.
