So for those of us on the Dakota: - we pay Dave now for the $15.00 - pay the DC-3 people on the day for the trip. Is this correct? - please confirm.

Over Easter I had a massive inner ear problem which saw me off to hospital three times, twice by ambulance. As a result I am banned from driving for a while while I fully regain my balance. I am booked on the Dakota and I wonder if anyone can give me a lift to and from. I live at Royal Oak in Auckland.

I hope you can find a lift Keith.
Over the past few days I have had messages from several people who were booked to come that have now had to pull out, so the expected number of around 90 people is reduced abck to about 75. If anyone wants to come last minute there's certainly going to be space for you.
Sadly three veterans who were originally keen to come but have just pulled out, two because of their health, are Harvey Sweetman, Owen Hardy and Jack Stafford, three of our fighter aces. Alan Peart is all set to come still. I have not heard from Geoff Fisken lately but I know he's been unwell too, so we may end up with just the one ace rather than the hoped five. At their ages it's something that happens and we can sadly do nothing about it. We'll still have several other RNZAF veterans there though who flew in NZ, the UK, Europe, North Africa, Italy, the Med, Burma and the Pacific. We'll also have a number of FAA veterans who served in Europe, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific.

One way or another, I can get you there, coming from Titirangi, so you're on the way to Ardmore. PM me some contact details if you are keen and we'll jack it up. Dale

Spent about 4 days being sick ( because my inner ear gave me motion sickness ) , and took 6 to 8 months before I could turn my head without almost falling over . Good luck with your recovery , its not a fun thing

Ha ha , yep Baz , but even a really bad hangover only lasts 2 or 3 days , this was a good 6 months . I never drove for a week - not because I was banned , but because I didnt think I could . The really scarry thing was that it took about 15 minutes to go from feeling normal , to being a blithering wreck ( compared to 3 or 4 hours with booze ) ;D

I know three people who have had inner ear issues lately resulting in vertigo. Thats pretty much what happened to me . Got back to a level where I could function within a week or so , but still lost balance and got dizzy if I moved my head to the sides . Took so long to come right ( well over 6 months ) that I wasnt sure if it ever would .

IMPORTANT NOTICE
For those who are flying from Ardmore to Cambridge and return on the Dakota, please read the following.
All passengers are to be at Warbird HQ, Ardmore Airport at 0900hrs, sharp, (that's 9.00am, NO LATER) ready to board and depart by 0930.
The Dakota will arrive at Hamilton - at Waikato Aero Club - at 1000hrs.
The Coach departs for Cambridge at 1015hrs.
It is proposed that the coach should leave Cambridge at 1700hrs, and you'll fly back to Ardmore before 1800hrs.
ALSO IMPORTANT In the past week we have had two passengers pull out of the flight dropping the numbers, thus making the whole venture more expensive for those who have put the package together. We are not making any profit on this venture at all, and in fact it looks like it will be a loss! However we are committed to go ahead with the deal as so many have come forward to support it.
For passengers who feel they can perhaps donate a little more to their fare that would be greatly appreciated by the Dakota team I am sure.
And all members attending please remember that we are holding a raffle that will raise money for the Dakota - this will proibably be more a subsidy now for the trip rather than adding donations to the aircraft's preservation, sadly, so please, please support the raffle and buy lots of tickets. We have lots of great prizes sent in from some very kind members, including a swag of aviation DVD's and videos, some photos, some Dakota caps and maybe some other items. We will run it like the last raffle, each item will have its own draw so the tickets you purchase have lots of chances of winning. So buy loads, please.

Hmm, I better get the model aircraft dusted and packed to bring along. I will probably have the WW2 group from my RNZAF collection.

Thanks to the great work of David Atchinson (northcro), Dale Bradley (thebrads) and Jessica Cooper (Betsy46) we now seem to have a completely full Dakota for the flight on Saturday. Brilliant!! Thanks to all who have rallied up last minute aircraft enthusiasts. For a bit I was very worried as some who'd booked backed out and numbers were dropping again. But now it looks very good indeed.
