Thanks Don. It's a shame that you won't be here with us.
We have had one Dakota guy pull out and another is now umming and arring and has not confirmed his seat so there are potentially two spare seats now if anyone wants to make a last minute decision to come by Dakota. Call Jessica Cooper if you do.
A reminder of the raffle, we have over 20 prizes that have been kindly donated, lots of very good aviation DVD's and videos, some jet books, some lovely photos, and the Dakota crew are brining some hats too. Each raffle ticket you buy will have more than 20 chances of winning so they're a great investment and the money raised goes toward keeping a lovely aircraft flying too, the Dakota.

Dave, my apologies for not being in touch re the forum meet - have been somewhat distracted by moving my father up from Chch and getting him settled at Sunningdale RSA home here in Hamilton.
There was a guy Adams, I think in the room next door, with Cpl RNZAF, 30 Sqdn on his door, but he has gone back home I believe. i will ask the staff if they know where he is.
Good luck for the day and catch up soon.
Les

Just been packing 25 1/72 models into boxes of bean bag beads ready to take to the meet... I think I'll be finding polystyrene beads all around the house for months!

Thanks to everyone who came along today to make such a successful day. We had some great guest speakers and lots of people there. We had a good turn out of veterans from both lthe local area and further afield from Auckland and Tauranga, etc. I really enjoyed the day even though I had so much to remember and think about. A huge thanks to the guest speakers, and to helpers Bruce Cooke who was a legend. Richard Stowers, Paul Bevan who provided the PA system and Mike Cater who set it up. A huge thanks to the Dakota crew, Geoff Cooper, Jessica Cooper and Dave Hayman for bringing down the Dakota and the forum members and making the day a success.
The speakers we had were" Colin Murray (Army and KEV president) Bob Glading (Fleet Air Arm) Larry Hill (on Jack Rae's parachute) Ian Ronalds (the Hobsonville Memorial) Alan Peart (RNZAF Spitfire ace) Wayne Green (the James Aviation DC-3 restoration) Geoff Cooper (the DC-3)
Sadly we ran out of time to have Reg Mitchell speak before he had to go home, who is the last living No. 488 (NZ) Squadron aircrew member in NZ. Hopefully we can arrange a future event and have him along to give a talk.
Thanks again everyone.

Dave, I'd like to say thank you so so much for making it an excellent day. I came down in the Dak as you know and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Enjoyed listening to the stories from the vets. Wow, some amazing tales. Some great laughs too. Mostly, it was great to finally put faces to names and to bond with people who share their love of aviation. Absolutely stoked about getting a job (volunteer) onboard the Dak as flight attendant after speaking with Jess. Had a wee bit of 'training' on the way home today and doing some more tomorrow. Really look forward to helping out in the cabin of the Dak when I can and not flying in the Airbus. For those of you I met, Errol, KB etc can you please PM me your details and I will get in contact as I was at the Dak when alot of you left back at Ardmore. Again, thank you so much Dave for organising a wonderful day and I'm sure it was appreciated by all who attended.

Thanks for the raffle prize that you sent over too OJ. The NAC tie and cufflinks went to the right gut, a very nice veteran who wears ties and cuflinks.

Great day! lots of aeroplane spoken and listened to. I think Dave was quite taken back by the huge turnout (over 80!) and it was certainly amazing to mingle with the veterans, listening to their stories. We wont have the opportunity for much longer, so great to make the most of it. Anyway, some photos of the model display - I didnt get any "general" pics sorry - too busy chatting! General view of the model display, which came from 3 collections, including some of mine (Mike Aldridge sent some and I forgot the other chaps name, sorry...) From the 3 collections we had 4 1/72 Catalinas in various schemes, which we displayed in one group, along with my Singapore, Sunderland III and Walrus. Mainly training types - including Link Trainer Also included was an RNZAF Wellington Mk 1, as used briefly for training in the UK before being handed back on outbreak of war. Some of the larger scale examples Wartime Lockheed twins - Hudson, Lexington, Lodestar, Ventura and Harpoon - with other WW2 types behind
