Someone mentioned the Vampire had been recovered from a Rukuhia roadside where it had sat since 1958....? I'd definitely say this is an ex-RNZAF airframe. I am a little confused though, as I took photos and saw a FB.5(2?), but Peter refers to a T.11?
Thanks for the ID on the Scout, I can now find some photos. And thanks for the shots of the Wasp oopsies, McFly! Were you with us on Sunday?

No he wasn't there Zac.
That's a massive bottle of chianti on the side of that ship. ;D That photo of NZ3904 is very scary, were the crew ok?

Someone mentioned the Vampire had been recovered from a Rukuhia roadside where it had sat since 1958 Hmm . . . further digging thru Vampire listings reveals that FB52 NZ5732 "Sold by GSB tender number 8241 dated 09 January 1963. To Dwen Distribution Company, Auckland. On display at Asplins Garage, Hamilton from June 1963. To J. Chambers, Auckland in 1972. Stored with B. Billing at Torbay, Auckland." This would seem to be the only Vampire that spent post-RNZAF time at/near Rukuhia. I saw it at Asplins 16Dec1967: So possibly "B.Billings" has passed it on to Don.

That would be it - still has the "KEEP OFF" on the side!
And "B. Billings" was there helping to show us around I believe?
Bill being one of Don's partners in crime I gather, he was very knowledgeable and helpful about the various airframes.

Yes, Bill Billings was with us there Peter, he's the chap who wanted to stay out of the photo.

Quite an impressive collection when you see the IDs all together like that! There were also numerous other components, several Merlins I think they were, Spitfire mainplane leading edge, Sea Venom vertical tails and tail booms, and goodness knows what else.

Indeed it's a great feature and a nice spread of photos. I had never seen the magazine till this issue but I'm mightily impressed by it, such a variety of different topics and they're all pretty interesting. It's a great magazine. And the editor Terry Snow who kindly sent it to me has just joined the forum too.

Did anyone get a serial or code from the Sea Venom boom? Rgds What you see in my photo is what I saw on the day unfortunately, like many artifacts there the booms were sandwiched between other miscellany and the shed walls. Very cool to see though, my first encounter with a Venom ;-)

The serial on the Sea Venom boom is 930. It also has the number 865 included.

For those wondering, from left to right are: Zac Yates Chris Newey (fwx) Jim Mungall (Shamus) down the front John Halton (johnh) behind Jim Ralph Starck Me (with my shirt hanging out!!) Errol Cavit (ErrolC) at back in orange ?? (Raymond's son?) Damon Edwards (Damon) down the front in red Steve Subritzky (trying to hide) Don Subritzky Raymond? - sorry i never got a chance to meet you Keith Bunyan (kb) Dave Atchinson (northcro) Pete Mossong (trx850) Stu Russell (Stu) Young master Hart - sorry I have forgotten your name Peter Lewis (flyernzl) Phillip Hart (Phillip) Christ its a small world. On Facebook I suddenly thought to search for a friend who was at the RNZAF Museum in the 1980s with me and Obiwan27, he was also in the RNZAF plus worked on Harvard NZ1040 with me too. I speak of one Ray Pichon who is named as Raymond? in the above list. It was amazing really as when I searched for his name a whole lot of Ray and Raymond Pichons came up. I peered at the first one and nearly didn't message him as the Eiffel Tower was in the background but since he had a lot of Kiwi friends I took a punt. And it was him! And he is a forum member! Small world huh? ;D
