... I was pleased with the results I got from a rental Nikon D7000 and for its smallness it sure packs some real handy features. More pics to come later. Cheers I was going to ask you how to found the D7000. Is the autofocus better than your D2? Very pleased with most results and especially the high ISO performance which I used in the Aviation Heritage Centre. 1600 ISO hand held using a Sigma 10-20mm lens. No Image Stabilization. If this breeches any copyright law then I will remove it? D2Xs is better at focusing on AF lenses. D7000 I think is more suited to the newer AFS lenses. It did take me a while to get used to the smallness however it is considerable lighter than the D2Xs. I will rent it again though and possible with an AFS prime lens to see how it performs. Cheers

I did the stupidest thing. My camera's card was full so I dumped the photos to my laptop to then format the card and free up space.
It was only yesterday after I got home that I realised that the photos had reached a suffix of 999 and thus the camera had begun a second folder on the card. i hadn't realised this so that folder was not dumped to laptop. Therefore I lost a load of photos that I took after the airshow which included from my visit to the AHC, two complete flying logbooks of veterans I interviewed which really rips my kilt, around 40 photos I took at the most impressive ANZAC Day service in Blenheim, and some photos i took in Christchurch. So I am really sad to have lost all these through my own stupidity of mot checking properly during the dump to laptop.
I dont suppose there's any way to recover such data? Probably not. At least all my airshow ones are ok, but that's not the point.

At least all my airshow ones are ok, but that's not the point. Due to the way camera cards get formatted, this may well be fairly easily recoverable (especially if you formatted the card in the camera). There are several free (small) recovery programs on the web, I used one a few months ago (when I did something similar), I'll check it's name when I get home.

Awesome photos there Colin. Would you mind posting some directly into this thread? Cheers. Thanks. Coming soon Dave just for this forum. I am still wading through them. Cheers

Not sure how that works, but hopefully it doesn't need to pull the card contents up (and down) over Dave's dial-up...

Does this recovery process work if I have already photographed some more after the formatting? I only realised yesterday. I haven't taken a lot since so maybe they haven't overwritten the ones i need to recover, hoefully. I might give it a go, at Mum's on broadband. It has to be worth a try. Thanks guys.
Thanks to you also Colin. I'm looking forward to more, your photos have been great so far.

If you formatted using the camera (rather than on computer), it is unlikely to have overwritten, due to how cameras manage writes to cards (they try to keep usage of each bit of the card even). I didn't lose any when I formatted a 20% used card then 5% filled it before I realised I hadn't copied off the 20% lot.

Sorry, missed these posts. It's just a tiny executable that can indeed recover data after the fats have been updated, Dave. If the file has been overwritten there is nothing you can do tho. I keep it on a thumb drive and use it for recovering hard disks. Works a treat. Good to hear the chair kicking has stopped.

The show has inspired me to make a scale Lego Albatros to sit next to my red lego triplane. I will begin when I have sourced enough parts.
