I quite like the shot of the soldier guarding the FW190 , with the ME108 in the background .Pity its not just plain trees ,or something like that behind them , then it could be almost pass for a war time shot .

Check out the ripples in the Spitfire's wing in the shot from the tail.

I dont want to be a train spotter but I think the sentry has a Russian PPSh-41 sub machine gun. Maybe he lost his Schmeisser at Stalingrad,or maybe he's about to pinch the Focke.

Or an MP-18. (Although they had a stick mag) But the Germans often used captured weapons.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PPSh-41"The captured PPSh was in particular a favorite weapon of the Germans. Because of the similarities between the 7.62x25mm Tokarev and the 7.63x25mm Mauser cartridge used in the Mauser C96 pistol, the PPSh was easily supplied with ammunition. In fact so many were captured that it became the second-most-common submachinegun used by German forces. Attempts were also made to convert the weapon to 9mm Parabellum to conform to German logistics. The Wehrmacht officially adopted the converted PPSh-41 as the MP41(r); unconverted PPSh-41s were designated MP717(r) and supplied with 7.63x25mm Mauser ammunition (which is dimensionally identical to 7.62x25mm, but somewhat less powerful). German-language manuals for the use of captured PPShs were printed and distributed in the Wehrmacht." Heh.

So, what happened to the wheel covers on the Fw? Really dont know for sure , but I did hear a whisper leading up to the show , that there was some sort of " red tape " issue with gear doors not being " approved " . Perhaps they got around the issue by just not fitting them ? ( oh , I like the photo shopping Strikemaster , looks really good )

Looks completely good to me,late war FW-190's seem to have operated without doors, especially in the winter or in snow. Late war a lot of them were used for ground attack, replacing the Stukas, and with the Allies advancing at speed a lot of their sorties were not far from the end of the runway.

Here is a take off shot from a flight we conducted on the Wednesday before the show for TV3. Very colourful background. Rolling around the Red Checkers, and the Harvard joined us as well.. One of the pilots was quite ill so the team could not fly at Classic Fighters 2011 which was a shame. Was tight for time but I shot up to Ardmore on the Thursday before the show to fly with the Tomahawk. It is such a stunning aircraft and am quite pleased with the photos from the flight, especially the near head on ones Finally one photo from Sunday, will post more in a week or two, was a great show and good to catch up with a few people but as it was busy their is never enough time for that. Didn't even get to the bar this time
