Unreal weather for the first day of Summer. Sydney is no better. Tops of 19 degrees and showers there for the next week. I don't understand the weather and the high winds now being December.

We've got a mere breeze and overcast here.
About six weeks ago and eight weeks ago I heard two radio interviews with someone from NIWA who said we were to get a long, hot dry summer that would start early in November. NIWA is true to form with their waste of space predictions, November was cold and wet.

It's Auckland, wake up, look out the window and make a call then. Could be worse, could be Wellington

Could be worse, could be Wellington And nobody seems to agree with me (and I've been saying it since I moved here) that it really is 4 seasons in one day. I think it only has 54 totally sunny days a year...How the hell do you pick one of those 54 days for an airshow

If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes.

It's easy to pick a good Sunny day in Auckland, it's the days that there are no outdoor events on.
Actually the Metvuw forecast chart is much better now than it was five days ago when the spot over Ardmore was red, now it's a mear purple to blue for the day. I reckon we'll hopefully get some flying in. The last one of these events I attended was October 2010, it was gale force winds, and we still saw some top notch displays including Keith Skilling doing a marvellous low and tight Spitfire display.

Should be having it in Christchurch, a balmy 28 deg here at the moment! Was even 27 deg in Invercargill on Wednesday when I was there! Global warming??!!
But seriously I hope you get a break in the weather tomorrow. A lot of work goes into organising any show so a shame for mother nature to bugger it up!

No cancellation email from the organisers this afternoon, so it must be on!
See you there, Chris

I'm sad to say that I definately will not be able to make the airshow now. My mate Mike has had to pull out, and Bruce is not going, and it's too late to arrange alternate transport, so I will have to make it another time. i hope you all will have a great day. It's a pity, I was looking forward to catching up with many friends and meeting new faces, and I have a stack of Official Forum goodies to hand out too, courtesy of Craig's manufacturing skills.
When's the next airshow?

I went and it got canned just as the Harvards were starting their prep to take off. The morning show was good and it was great to see the strikemaster fly. My buy of the day was Gavin's calender at $15. Exxceptional.

Back home a couple of hrs ago and still drying out ... what a shame, despite a hangar-full of people praying, the rain just persisted down. Anyway, I met some interesting people, learned a bit more about NZ Warbirds, and caught up with a few forumites. And now I know where the bar is .....!

I attended the open day today. Special thanks must go to the NZ Warbirds Association for trying to make good of a bad situation- the weather was horrible. Special thanks also to all the volunteers who gave-up their time in the wet conditions. It was nice to meet some forumites- Errol, Ian and Chris and of course catch-up with people such as Gavin and Ralph. We were also treated to a fine display of jet formation flying by Frank Parker (L-39) and Dave Brown (Strikemaster). Thanks guys and well done Cheers, Nick. Attachments:

Nice shots. I am sorry I missed the event because of the missing of the opportunity to catch up with people, but hearing how bad the weather was there compared to here I think staying in Cambridge was the right move maybe.
Were the jets the only aeroplanes that got airborne before the rain cancelled the show?

I am sorry I missed the event because of the missing of the opportunity to catch up with people, but hearing how bad the weather was there compared to here I think staying in Cambridge was the right move maybe. Were the jets the only aeroplanes that got airborne before the rain cancelled the show? It was mainly light showers out of the overcast until the end of the first display, then it set in. Some of the 2 dozen re-enactors slept there Saturday night, they added a bit of colour. The Zlin aerobatics plane did a formation flypast with the L-39! (mainly, the L-39 couldn't quite slow down enough), and a shortish, low display.
