See the NZ media have again got the full facts and printed a very truthful story. www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/national/7179929/NZ-Navy-bargaining-for-unsafe-helicoptersFor the record the actual reason the aussies backed out of the SH2G(A) Seasprite deal was because they made too many complex and complicated changes to the sensors and avionics. They wanted a two man crewing system comprising of one pilot and one crewman / sensors operator flying in the left hand seat. They wanted to integrate the AGM-119 Penguin missile instead of the AGM-65 Maverick. The Penguin (385kg) is somewhat heavier than the Maverick (209 - 304kg) and it caused lateral stability problems because it moved the centre of gravity to one side. The excuse that the aussie govt gave of safety issues for the cancellation of the program was all smoke and mirrors.

Was in 6 .Sqn today and hints were dropped in regards to definitely buying them. They said they were looking at operating 8 of them, with the other 3 to be cannabilised for parts.

Whilst the rumour has it that we'll be getting the 11 Seasprites Sikorsky has signed a baseline deal to build 653 Blackhawks & Seahawks for the USArmy and USN out to 2017. This also includes aircraft sold under the FMS such as the RAN Seahawk buy. This deal apparently means a far cheaper unit cost than the year to year buying which has been happening up until now. Point is if this continues for another five year cycle then the costs could be more atttarctive to NZG. www.defencetalk.com/sikorsky-signs-contract-to-build-h-60-helicopters-for-us-army-and-navy-43629/

On the vacancies page registrations of interest are being sought for SNCOs to be posted to Connecticut for 'possible SH-2G(I) acquisition' (or something along those lines).

which part of the page was that on. just spent 20 minutes browsing the site and found nothing. To be honest the whole RNZAF web site is pretty pathetic.

do a mod consisting of a flate plate on top of the exhaust, must be a maintenance platform there to stand on. Should get enough heat after a 15 minute engine run to do a few steaks etc

So has anyone heard anymore on the I model purchase. If we got them, I take it they would not be SH-2G NZ but maybe SH-2GK

The current fleet are designated SH-2G(NZ) the new aircraft are SH-2G(I). I haven't heard any plans to redesignate them.
If I was a betting man I'd be expecting another announcement in September sometime.

pretty sure from reading this and other areas that it is a full gone conclusion, now just a matter of what price the govt wishes to spend to what we get. So if a announcement is made next month, then maybe they would be here by xmas after all paperwork was completed and flying in our colours first quarter of next year.

I see in this months Air Force Today (p21) that since the USN Seasprite simulator closed two years ago, the RN Lynx simulator has finally been validated for training of 6 Sqn Seasprite emergency and crew management resource training.

I wonder what Plan B is if the SH2G(I) Seasprite is not purchased by the NZ Govt for what ever reason. It's not really a given that they will be bought.
