The quality of the restoration is such that it would be fair to say if she turned up at Oshkosh she'd surely be going home with Grand Champion and the team would have the gold spanner/wrench or whatever it is. World class.

Hearty congratulations to Bill, Robyn and everyone that did their bit both large and small over the last ten years to achieve such a great result. From what I have seen and heard of the day of the first flight, things could not have been more perfect. A bloody well done to all! I can't wait to see her up close some time soon.

Here's another pic from the 18th after its last flight of the day: That's Bill wearing his customary cap and leaning against the wing tip, with David Philips obscuring Robyn. The portly individual in the flying suit is Gavin at second right, with Nanchang pilot (Jay?) at far right. In the name of shameless self promotion, an article on the restoration is appearing in the August issue of NZ Aviation News with air-to-airs taken on the day by John King.

Is great to have that footage as a lasting reminder of an awesome day in our aviation history. For those who have not seen the aeroplane yet, you will be amazed, the interior is stock standard and is quite something.

How is the test flying going? Will it be based at Nelson?

Saw it up close at ATC last night, interesting aircraft. Very clean. Can't wait to see it fly in person.

Just a heads up - The Anson is currently at Ohakea after being flown up from Nelson yesterday, and will fly a few times this week, before heading up to Ardmore this weekend.

That's fantastic news! Do you know if the team will fly directly to Ardmore after that or will it stop at New Plymouth or elsewhere? It would be appropriate given Bell Block airfield was home to Ansons during the war.

Does anyone know the Australian history of this Anson ?
Was speaking to my father yesterday, and he mentioned he had a fly in an Anson in the early 1950's at Amberly --- his father was based there as a W/O. Just curious really - maybe it was the one he had a flight in :-)

No, I don't know when it's heading North, but I don't think it'll be stopping anywhere if it does... The Anson is still on the test flying program, so it's technically not supposed to fly more than 40nm from the airfield of departure. Caa have allowed them to 'stretch' that 40nm for the trip to Ohakea and then to Ardmore, but I don't think it'll stop anywhere else. That said, it did do a nice wee flyover of Feilding (and Feilding aerodrome) before landing at Ohakea.
