Great photos, thanks. Good to see one of those cursed family van things being dropped from the air. One less to deal with!

Very cool pics. You should've come down to the TRG show. No Globemaster or Hornet, of course, but the mighty Hunter was back in the air, plus pretty much all the WWII fighters etc etc.

That car turned out to be a right PITA. Seems the glass should have been all removed. A large area of the airfield had to be scraped clear/clean and new turf grown.

I'm sure they won't do that again then, still pretty impressive to see it, I know back in South Africa they did similar things with the Puma helicopters, but they would make a few calls over the PA system asking who ever owned a car rego number xxxxxx to please move it, after the 3rd or fourth request to move the car they said they had had enough of waiting and would move it themselves, then this Puma would hover over to the car park, they would strap the car up and fly off, once over the drop zone they would release it.
I believe there is also video on Youtube of a SAAF Cheetah firing a missile at a flare in front of the crowd line, I never saw that when I was there.

No OSH issues in South Africa then! Don't know about now, I've been out of country for about 16 years now, I never saw this missile firing and I've watched the video on Youtube and can't see shit, here is the link I do remember being at an air show where a member of the crowd had an a/c Alouette 3 and he was flying this thing around, it was quite a big model and apparently had never had permission to fly it. They came over the PA system and told him to stop as it could interfere with the flying display, he stopped for a bit then flew it again and was told over the PA again that if he took off again it would be shot down, they always had fully armed defense force personal at the military shows there when I was a kid, I think that was the last year I saw a Buccaneer at an air show as well.

Hi all.
I was chatting to my dad about the upcoming air show and we started to talk about Whenuapai 09 and we both remember seeing the C-130 fire off some flares at the top of the take of climb, I can't find and pics or video of this and I need to know we didn't imagine it.
I think it was near the beginning of the show but can't be sure.
Doe anyone here remember seeing that or have any pics of it?

You didn't imagine it, they did fire flares, possibly not in '09 though? I took this photo at the 2007 Whenuapai air show.

This is the flare shot from Whenuapai in 2009: And Ohakea in 2008 (copyright mine on both images): Hopefully we will see it again in a few weeks
