I got FREE ferry tickets for the Interislander.
FREE for me, one other person and a car.
It's called "perks of the job" working for KiwiRail.
They give us a promo code which we use when making a booking. When the website asks for payment, we type in the promo code and are then automatically credited for the value of the fare and the tickets arrive seconds later via email.

So I can get an idea of numbers for the Cork and Keg can everyone who wants to please reply with numbers and I'll see what they say. Like Lumpy said they might not take a booking but would give them a heads up. Dont count me in Baz . I dont get home till about 7 on Thursdays , then have to go pick teenage daughter from work at 8 . I may be able to pop in for a quick drink , but thats about it ( unless I can convince wife to do " pick up " duties ) . On the bright side , Im FREE for the whole weekend after that . ;D

Can we have a street address for for the Cork and Keg please.
Not being locals, we will be flying by GPS.

I thought Renwick only had one street. ;D They make great pies there by the way at Renwick Pies, or they used to. I hope it hasn't changed.

If your passing through Renwick on the main road ( heading away from Blenheim ) , the first pub you come across is the Woodburne Tavern ( on the right ) . Carry on a little further and you will see an old 2 story pub building . This is the Renwick Country club ( or something like that ) .Turn right there , the Cork and Keg is quite close on the left . Its actually the country club , not the Cork and keg that is on the corner of SH6

Well, I've finally done it.
I've gone and purchased a second camera body so I can be one of those sad-sacks with two cameras, so I can use two different lenses at airshows without having to change lenses on a single camera body. Your sensor will thank you, airfields are terrible places to change a lens. Most of us use 'and a second body is a good idea' as a part-justification for an upgrade :-) A backup body is also good if the main one fails - been there, done that. And now I've gone totally nuts and purchased a third camera body so I can use three different lenses at airshows without having to change lenses on any individual camera body.
I've now got a Canon 550D, a Canon 650D and a Canon 6D.
Definitely Gold-Pass grandstand back-row anorak material, eh?

I see that there is a total fire ban for the airfield, and that the airshow map shows a designated smoking area next to the BP hangar.
I wonder how rigid the no-smoking enforcement will be? Will it be permissible to carry a super-soaker and squirt anyone smoking outside the designated area, or are there water restrictions too?
Will the total fire ban affect the pyros and re-enactors?
The airshow map is available as a PDF on the Classic Fighters web site.

I'm liking the eastern 'finger' into the 'cloth and wire' flightline area. I suppose this partially reflects the larger numbers of these aircraft now resident? And I realise that it is probably just a matter of what little graphics were available, but it's a bit mean to tease use with silhouettes of what look like Meteors! I suppose it stops the arguments between the Venom, L-29, and Blunty!

A reminder that these labels (suitable for putting in dirt cheap nametag holders from stationers) are available. Remember, no putting other people's names on them and acting up! WONZ Label Top by errolgc, on Flickr WONZ Label bottom by errolgc, on Flickr

The smoking ban will need to be stuck to by everyone and as pointed out their is a designated area for it. It is very dry down here with a ban on any fires so everyone needs to take care. In terms of pyros etc the rain over the past few days has been a huge relief to everyone so we should be able to do everything we have planned. About time we start talking about aeroplanes so what are you looking forward to seeing? For me its this, have seen a display already, the sight and sound of a 190 over Omaka is just to cool to describe!!! By the way a lot of people go the bigger airshows on the Saturday but be sure to return on Sunday, you won't want to miss it!!! Friday evening show should be good as well.

Yes I am looking forward to a full display by the Focke Wulf replica too. The little we saw before the last show in 2011 were pretty tantalising.
Especially if we get to see it mixing it with three Spitifres, but I think that's not going to happen.
