Thank you so much for the reply, have been trying to find those routes since I moved from Aussie, first flight was on a F27 East West to Norfolk Island so always had a soft spot for the aircraft. Can I push my luck by asking what flight numbers the flight via CHC uses please.

I last flew NAO on 13 July 2012 WB-WN-AA and after 80 something thousand cycles she was still nice to fly. Unfortunately with her retirement we stopped flying the PMR-CHC-PMR route which used the callsign PST31 and PST32.

Andy, does that mean there is only one active a night and the other is simply a spare ??

Exactly. The Auckland F27 is also on standby to cover the B737 freighter to Christchurch should it go U/S.

I reckon. I don't have the exact numbers here but 2 years ago there was something like 120 F27's still flying in the world and it's now about 1/2 that number. The last parts supplier shut the door on the F27 in March 2012 and there are no spare serviceable dart engines available. I understand Air NZ will overhaul the dart but will only do a minimum of 5 at a time and it's a million dollars each which is hard to justify when the airframe is worth $2.75

The march of time huh?...surely you can get them (RR Darts) overhauled in Canada cheaper?
Prehaps it's time to enjoy the last few flying examples...even sponsoring 'commemerative' liveries for them to wear untill the end?

free photo hostingThis model was built for me by Steve Bowe. NAC "Wings of the Nation" livery. ZK-BXE "Kahu" (though I always thought of this plane's name as "BattleaXE"...) His website: bowemodels.com

It is obscured by the Beech 1900 wing in the foreground , but I think this shot I took a couple of weeks ago looks quite good of the F27 in the " flight line " .

image sharingYes, I know that on the "Wings of the Nation" scheme, the name of the aircraft was not placed on the nose (unlike the previous liveries), but I requested it anyway as this plane held quite a few memories for me.

Trundling through some of my F27 photos tonight, I came across this one of ZK-BXG. Somehow it seems to encapsulate the aviation scene in the 1960s, when youngsters were actually encouraged to take an interest in aviation! At Whenuapai 28Aug1964

A very nice photo Peter. Youngsters are still encouraged to take an interest in aviation. It's just harder to get near to commercial aircraft now days.

Trundling through some of my F27 photos tonight, I came across this one of ZK-BXG. Your trundling was much appreciated Peter ;D. A similar scene was probably played out in the 1980's in Napier with the same aircraft and me with my old man - although such loud shirts weren't in vogue for lads by then. Cheers A
