So, what are all these helicopters? Does anyone know types, ZK- regos and pilots? I recognise a civil Iroquois, the Scout, and two Hughes 500's of some sort, that's all I know. The fourth helicopter back from the front looks like an old favourite of mine - a BO 105. Can anyone confirm? The 7 at the rear appear to be Cabri G2's, but I can't be sure.

efliernz - thanks for all the lovely pix. Loved the mystical one of the Spitty PV270, and the shot of the jets. Thanks for sharing!

Errol, what does a "single" mean?? As opposed to a 'twin'! Just how he referred to them in the blog.

Let's be honest... shooting at Wanaka is damn difficult when on the public line or the gold stand. The sun/glare is a b@tch... We would all like to stand where Gavin does but we are not Gavin... For those that didn't make it... here's a few Pete Indeed, the light is problematic. That's a way better shot of the Hawks than anything I could manage. This one was the best of a bad lot for me: My companions and I agreed it was a better aircraft to watch than photograph anyway. It's interesting, but not particularly photogenic

Great shots. That jet racing does look a lot better than I expected. I'll bet it sounded neat?

Does anyone know what all the activity was in the distance on the Saturday (in the background here)? There appeared to be some jetboating/jetsprinting going on. www.jetsprint.co.nz/wanaka.htm

Any doubt that the jet pilots took the racing seriously... no doubt at all. One of the teams were seen polishing their L29 most of Saturday night as well as removing the drop tanks and sealing any gaps! They still lost mind you... Pete Obviously at a distance but you get the idea! On approach to the start line: Yes he is below tree line!

I noticed the line of marquee tents steadily disappearing as the day went on, the people over there would have had some great views of proceedings.

I was tempted to go over to the Jetsprint car park there so I wouldn't be shooting into the sun... but I was a passenger all weekend...

The one just in front of the Cabri G-2, in the middle (to save others doing the matching exercise that I just did). Also, the Scout is one of the pre-production batch built by AVRO, before they were taken over by Westland (especially important as it is on the CAA register as manufactured by AVRO, which caught me out up-thread).
