Pretty special day when an Avro Anson flies straight over your house and lands across the road. Looking and sounding wonderful, she took off from Ashburton for Wanaka at 3.35 this afternoon (Monday). A Chippy also called here at the same time. They're making their way folks. It's almost "show time"!

Just been looking online at the ticket prices, cheapest for our family for Saturday or Sunday would be $350.00. Ouch. Thats with two teens over 15 & one child. Bugga off. I'm guessing thousands will vote with their feet & stay away. I admit I've been spoiled the last couple of decades & each time go thru the exercise of what could Wanaka produce to get me down there. The answer is, at those prices, probably nothing. As an aside, since when has a 15 year old living at home dependant on Mum & Dad for the necessities of life been an adult. Only if your're someone trying to scam the public & screw a higher admission out of them & yes, I know its pretty universal & I think it stinks. Steve.

I'm doing one day, dependant on the weather. It'll be up at 4am, on the road at 5am and home again straight after the show. That's the best way to keep the cost down for this vintage plane nut.

Can anyone identify the tail numbers on the Hawks please? A97-441, C130J, flew Richmond-Williamtown-Christchurch yesterday but ran late and ended up overnighting. Today it flew to Queenstown and back to Richmond.

I believe the Harvards are stuck at home? Were due through Ashburton today, but with this weather, getting tight to find a break. Can anyone update on this?

Hardly surprising given the weather right up and down the country in the last 2 weeks. There has been hardly any suitable days for the Auckland based VFR aircraft to get down there. I wonder what else is stuck in Auckland? The show's programme was looking pretty thin as it was! I hear the 2-seat Spitfire is not coming now either (nothing to do with the weather).

I think your right Don. A visit to AR on Tuesday saw the two seat Spitfire in the hangar and the NZ Warbirds hangar full. Quite surprised that they hadn't gone already due to the forecast of weather. Great to see the article on TV3 about the jet air racing though. Funny about the liquor licensing for that weekend at Wanaka.

GEEZ you could at least wait till you've been to the show before you start pulling it to bits. The people running the show can't control the weather. The best airshow I have ever been to was at a little airfield between the US Canada border. No fences and a display by some loony in a Walco that made the hair stand up no the back of my neck

Let's see how this pans out.

Cloud very much higher than yesterday. Sunshine actually coming thru window of Wanaka internet café as I write. Just had 7 Yak 52 overhead as I walked downtown so they must have gotten thru that mess up north. Dare I say Anson looks and sounds spectacular

Heading south tomorrow afternoon, but from here for the Saturday at least the show is looking like a washout in every respect. I'm hoping a reverse hex will apply after posting this!
Also I don't mind a bit of rain, but after getting very little in March here in Wellington it has rained on 10 out of the last 11 days. Getting a tad over it, especially now as it is looking like affecting a lot of people's fun this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend Mustang51!!

In the last hour the cyclone that has been lashing the place has suddenly stopped dead, the sun is out and the birds are tweeting. It's calm and the rain has stopped. Maybe there's hope for tomorrow morning for aircraft to get down there.
