In the last hour the cyclone that has been lashing the place has suddenly stopped dead, the sun is out and the birds are tweeting. It's calm and the rain has stopped. Maybe there's hope for tomorrow morning for aircraft to get down there. Might be the eye, Dave, if she's still classified as a cyclone.

Me and my dad have just spent 2k on a trip down with $700 tickets, and not even the Ardmore clang will be out here? No man, this simply aint fair. Shit load of money for tickets to a shit show. So what did you think you would see before you bought the tickets? I think the line up is pretty much as good as you can expect these days for a Wanaka show.

Nope, it's been rain-free, if blowy, in Auckland since lunchtime. The main band of rain is now south of Wellington.

Ah, I see, jolly good. It's the tail that you've copped.

If that was the tail I'd hate to be in the centre, the wind was some of the worst I've seen.

I saw on Facebook and Twitter the other day the Frew Yak had arrived. Nice coverage of the Hawks on the Otago Daily Times website - they even had to use their drogue chutes on landing!

The hawks came buzzing through the queenstown valley at about lunch time. Looks like they landed as well.

Warbirds cancellation rumour false Created 18/04/14 Warbirds Over Wanaka organisers are anxious to dispel any rumours this weekend's show has been cancelled owing to poor weather.
Show general manager Ed Taylor said one of his staff had received a phone call from someone in Nelson, expressing their sympathy that the show had been cancelled.
Mr Taylor was insistent that the show was going ahead as planned, starting with today's practice day events.
Weather in Wanaka was improving after rain overnight, and blue sky was starting to show through the cloud.

Cloud was very low this AM, but lifted throughout the day. Virtually nil wind, which is a big improvement.
Most of the practice sessions, including the jets, went ahead OK.
Light levels a bit low for good photography though.

Yes, weather seems to be taking a better course for the weekend. Wonder where the Hawks are hiding?

So what has arrived there from around NZ today? And what unusual types are there? I saw a Westland Scout on their Facebook page, will that be displaying?
If anyone can note who is flying what in the lesser well known types I'd appreciate it for my Airshow Archive please.

It may have been ZK-HQU, one of two Scouts on the register - both registered to Christopher Marsden, of Wanaka.
