Talking of TVAL...I won't be at their Anzac Airshow on 27th April.
I actually applied for leave for that date (I was rostered to work a late-shift) and had it approved, so was planning to be there.
But then, one of the senior locomotive engineers in Wellington (who I have a huge amount of respect for) decided to retire on Friday 26th April and the lads are having a retirement dinner and function for him at the Petone Working Mans' Club on Saturday 27th April, so I decided I'm going to attend that. Living locally in Masterton, I get to attend most of TVAL's flying displays, so missing the occasional one won't hurt me. I'll definitely be there for the Remembrance 2013 display in November.

There are usually about 20-25 full-size WW1 aircraft flying at their shows.
3x DR1, 3x Se5A, 2 x D.Va, 2x Be2, 2 x Fe2b, 2 x Sopwith Pup, 2 x D.VIII, Camel, D.VII, RE8, N.11, F2B, Sopwith Triplane, plus occasionally others like the DH5, Avro 504, Snipe, and whatever else has just been wheeled out of the workshop. Usually a couple of Tiger Moths and the Stampe.
The Old Stick & Rudder Co operate either the Corsair or the P-40. Sometimes the RNZAF appear with the Harvard or the Red Checkers. A bit of ground theatre with the WW1 tank, and free rides in various WW1-era vehicles. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is also available for rides prior to the show starting.
Its a good way to spend an afternoon.

Anyone know if the Avro 504 will be flying?
I'd crawl there over broken glass to see that one.

It'd be nice to see both 504s - real and replica - together.
Not sure I can make this one but I'll watch for the photo thread.

I have seen both, at separate times, on the ground.
I have yet to see one in the air.

I've seen both too - and flying - but am yet, as with I think everyone else, to see them flying together.

The twins... The replica was damaged "beyond economic repair" and I think the engine is now used in the Sopwith Triplane. It is still on the register so I guess there is the possibility that it will be repaired. The original had the engine removed to allow it to be reverse-engineered so that more engines could be produced. I don't know if the engine has been re-assembled and re-mounted. I think the likelihood of them both flying together next weekend is remote, but I am prepared to be surprised.

The replica crash landed in trees a couple of years ago didn't it? Bit sad, but a good thing it wasn't the original!

Well....it looks like I will be in attendance now.
The "retirement do" I was going to attend on Saturday has been postponed for a couple of weeks in order to allow a few former (now retired) workmates to attend, so I've now got this coming Saturday free. I guess I'd better "pull finger" and dig out the cameras (and lenses) from the bag they've been stashed in since Classic Fighters and charge up the batteries all ready for Saturday arvo. At least I don't have far to go....Hood Aerodrome is only about 2½km from my place!

After checking the weather, which looks fairly positive, I have decided to have a go.
I have booked flights with Jetstar: AKL - WLG JQ269 Dep.6.20pm Arr 7.25pm Friday 26th WLG - AKL JQ264 Dep 11.30am Arr 12.35pm Monday 29th.
Then driving up from WLG for the Saturday afternoon.
My 35 - 105 camera lens is playing up a bit from the SI trip, so may have to give that a rebore before the weekend.
