Yep the Chippies took off and disapeared in the murk, was watching with interest as I fly 27. They managed to group up nicely and do one low pass. I was hassling the pilot of 27 later as it was the best IMC display I every seen. Nice pic's, thanks for posting. I left my camera in the bag to keep it dry!

There was a L-29 doing rides from Woodbourne. The chippies did get off, did a pass in trail from memory.

OK, I didn't know about the one operating from Woody. A pity it didn't do a low pass along the Omaka runway.

An actual T-6 I believe rather than a Harvard. Am I right? Yep I was pleased to see this one arrive as I'd only seen a photo before. Quite different canopy/perspex arrangement than our WW2 era Harvards.

Quite different canopy/perspex arrangement than our WW2 era Harvards. I assume that is the one imported in about 2002-2003 and still on the US register. I had wondered if that was still here as you never see photos of it and it doesn't seem travel around that much.

We had three US-marked Harvard/T-6's on the field which was neat.

Cool. Good to see they got up. I must have been sheltering from the downpour and nattering at that stage.
Chippies are cool, especially en masse.

No-one seems to have posted a shot of this formation flypast. Three different Sopwiths together. Hopefully to be joined by a younger sibling in a couple of weeks. There has also been a lack of coverage for this piece of total bad-assed macho fightin' machine. And the organisers had two years to clean this up.

The bomb wasn't there on the Thursday. If you look back at my photo of Al running the Bristol on the Thursday (I think I posted that) it's in the background.

Love Gavin's photo of the model 12. Although disconcerting is the the fact that only one exhaust is producing the smoke! I can tell you that a lot of work has gone into making this smoke system work properly (Including a shipment of special smoke oil to Omaka....thanks Jay).

That is a really impressive aircraft to see displayed Richard, and you did a really nice job of it too.

Those Chippie boys did an excellent job in the murk and the rain....... Never seen an IFR display before. It was Bevan Dewes first display clutching his brand new LLD permit

I can tell you that a lot of work has gone into making this smoke system work properly (Including a shipment of special smoke oil to Omaka....thanks Jay). How many minutes smoke do you get from a tank? We have a 20 litre tank on our Yak and we have a valve to adjust the flow rate. With experimentation it has been found that 4 litres/minute gives a reasonable smoke trail while lasting for a full display sequence. It looks like you've got the wick fully turned up! Does the special smoke oil just smell better than dirty old diesel, or are there other attributes that make it good? (e.g smoke cloud thickness per volume burned)

The tank is 26.5 litres and burns around 3 litres per minute giving about 9 minutes, but is also adjustable. The oil is Shell Carnea 22, it retails at about $14 per litre! So do the maths for a display, I burnt over 60 litres at Omaka. It is soluable in water so it doesn't get into the fabric like diesel , it also burns whiter and is more environmentally friendly.
