$14/litre... I'm kind of glad we have a metal fuselage on the Yak... a bit of "Clean Green" on a rag and the $1.50/litre diesel oil residue comes right off. I can understand the need to preserve fabric, though. Especially with the impeccable finish that JE has put into his paint work. I understand some of the guys tried to use recycled cooking oil for a while, but the aircraft always smelled of deep-fried chips after a display and everyone got too hungry. Medicals were then put at risk as the only cure was a visit to the airshow food stalls...

Competition, give me a break. The more people out there doing it the better as those that dont get to go get to see the show. Great work their Dino and am hoping that Colin Hunter and Matt Hayes have some to share at some point no doubt as will many others so keep it up.
One request though, I was flying at the time so didn't photograph the fly pasts on Sunday by the nine WW2 fighters, Yaks, Harvards, and Red Checkers and at beer O clock on Friday it was mentioned that none have been posted here so far so anyone got any? A lot of people would love to see them :-)

Superb shots Errol. Yes indeed, not an easy one to photograph, but what an epic spectacle to watch!
Classic Fighters has achieved impressive flyovers at all the shows I have been to - in 2007 the Pearl Harbor recreation was awesome with 22 aircraf from memory; 2009 was the awesome fly in to attack the abbey on the hill; and in 2011 the sight of six WWII fighters in close formation - two Spitfires, two P-40's, Corsair and Mustang (which I watched while chatting with WWII fighter pilot Bunty Bunt) was a sight to behold. But this year seeing the big formation was perhaps the most memorable, all the fighters, trainers and the bomber - awesome. We have been very spoiled for great formations this season, at Ardmore, Hood Aerodrome and Omaka. Thanks to all the pilots, owners, groundcrews, organisers and others involved in making these everlasting memories happen.

Hi Gavin My shots of the formation on Sunday were crap, It was difficult lighting and the formations seemed too spread out (i.e. substitute in that sentence "I'll blame anything else but me" ;D )..... anyway to be honest I was just not setup and did not anticipate well enough so for my level of skill I knew I wasn't going to recover in time and so then I just really sat back and took it in....its those sorts of skills that seperate the pros like you mate...all good though as sometimes I get too caught up in the viewfinder and have to remind myself just to enjoy and 'live' the show ...as Dave said the formation finale was EPIC to watch....I hope someone got it on good video (?)..anyway here is the best that I could get and a couple of other formations thrown in.. with some heavy cropping thrown in ! ( NB : Thanks for the really nice comments everyone ..for a weekend warrior its really appreciated ;D ) ClasFighter 76 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 75 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 73 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 74 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 78 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 77 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 80 by DinoR2, on Flickr ClasFighter 72 by DinoR2, on Flickr

Great stuff!
Good to see you caught Tracy hard at work doing the wingwalking, she seemed to be up and down the flightline constantly all day looking after various planes.

Thanks for those photos Errol and Dino, great to see so many aircraft in the sky together, especially neat to see the Fw 190 with the two Yak 3s.

Experience has taught me that a D80/7000 with 70-300/80-400 is rather poor for getting an overall sense of the big displays at Omaka. So I made sure that the D80 with 16-85 was handy during the big events. Being at ground level on Saturday also helped - see rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=airshow&thread=18479&post=185871As you say, the final flyby wasn't in helpful lighting, so I snapped a few with the D80, then stood back and took it all in. Fantastic!
